The Patient Services Representative (PSR) serves as the first point of contact for patients, visitors, and healthcare providers. The PSR is responsible for scheduling appointments, handling patient registration, verifying insurance, and ensuring a smooth and positive experience for all patients throughout their surgical journey.
Key Responsibilities
Greet patients, families, and visitors with professionalism and courtesy.
Schedule surgical procedures, consultations, and follow-up appointments.
Perform patient registration : collect personal, demographic, and insurance information accurately.
Verify patient insurance coverage and obtain prior authorizations as required.
Answer phone calls and respond to patient inquiries regarding procedures, preparation instructions, billing, and general questions.
Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.
Assist patients with completing necessary forms, consent documentation, and pre-operative instructions.
Coordinate with nursing, surgical, and administrative staff to ensure smooth patient flow.
Update and maintain patient records in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
Collect co-pays, balances, and manage basic billing inquiries as needed.
Handle patient concerns or complaints professionally and escalate to the appropriate supervisor when necessary.
Support overall administrative and operational efficiency of the center.
Qualifications & Skills
Education / Experience
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in healthcare administration or related field preferred.
Previous experience in patient services, medical front desk, or healthcare administration preferred.
Skills & Attributes
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate patient records.
Proficient in office software and EHR systems.
Ability to multitask in a fast-paced outpatient healthcare environment.
Professional demeanor and commitment to providing outstanding patient service.
Knowledge of insurance verification, pre-authorizations, and basic medical billing practices is a plus.

Working Conditions & Schedule
On-site role at Ohio Surgery Center in a front desk / reception and administrative environment.
Typical Monday through Friday daytime schedule; may vary based on center hours and surgical schedule.
Requires prolonged periods of sitting, using a computer, and communicating with patients and staff.
