Job description

JOB SUMMARY

Under general supervision, plans, designs and monitors projects related to applicable functional area.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :

  • Perform complex in-house design projects in functional area including communication with appropriate parties to gain information needed to complete design project.
  • Review, coordinate and monitor plans and specifications related to functional area projects.
  • Administer assigned projects from design to construction, including preparing detailed reports submitted to City Council; including the ability to minimize change orders.
  • Help maintain records, files, computer models, and status of projects.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS :

  • Provide information and technical assistance to other city departments, consultants, developers, citizens, and other city employees.

    • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

  • Knowledge of modern principles and practices in civil engineering methods and design, material evaluation, construction and maintenance of public works.
  • Knowledge of surveying, drafting, design and inspection of public works projects.
  • Knowledge of state law and local ordinances pertaining to public works.
  • Skill in communicating with other city employees and the public by oral and written means.
  • Skill in making, reading, and interpreting field notes, construction specifications, and estimates and bids.
  • Skill in applying engineering principles to problems and developing decisions to utilize city resources effectively.
  • Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication.
  • Ability to perform a variety of physical skills including, but not limited to, PC, calculator, telephone, copier and fax machine.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment and solve problems.
  • Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Ability to operate a motorized vehicle.

    • Qualifying Education and Experience :

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related science, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Possession of a valid Texas Operator's license, Class C.
