Job description

General Merchandise Expert

Starting hourly rate : $16.50 USD per hour. Working at Target means helping all families discover the joy of everyday life. Experts of store process and efficiency who enable a consistent experience for our guests by ensuring product is set, in-stock, accurately priced and signed on the sales floor. The General Merchandise and Food Sales team leads inbound, outbound, replenishment, and promotional signing processes for all General Merchandise (GM) areas of the store. This team conducts inventory accuracy, merchandise set-up and maintenance and pricing processes for all areas of the store. Experts enable efficient delivery to our guests by supporting pick, pack and ship fulfillment work.

The role of a General Merchandise Expert can provide you with :

  • Knowledge of guest service fundamentals and experience supporting a guest first culture across the store.
  • Experience in retail business fundamentals including : department sales trends, inventory replenishment, and process efficiency and improvement.
  • Experience executing daily / weekly workload to support business priorities and deliver on sales goals.

As a General Merchandise Expert, no two days are ever the same, but a typical day will most likely include :

  • Creating a welcoming experience by greeting guests as you are completing your daily tasks.
  • Engaging with guests in a welcoming way when they need assistance.
  • Executing daily tasks assigned to you by your leader to help achieve goals that align with business priorities including receiving products, restocking shelves, organizing the backroom, arranging merchandise, and putting up promotional signs for GM areas.
  • If certified, operate power equipment to move merchandise or store fixtures.
  • Executing processes including changing prices to products, merchandise set-up and maintenance, and inventory accuracy as directed by your leader for all areas.
  • Learning how operational procedures affect inventory management, store profitability, and product availability.
  • Being knowledgeable about the resources, products, and services available in the total store, and specific to your area, to solve issues for the guest and improve their experience.
  • Demonstrating a culture of ethical conduct, safety and compliance.
  • Supporting guest services such as back-up cashier, and digital fulfillment processes.
  • All other duties based on business needs.

  • Capability to remain focused and composed in a fast-paced environment and accomplish multiple tasks within established timeframes.
  • We expect you to :

  • Accurately handle cash register operations as needed.
  • Climb up and down ladders.
  • Scan, handle and move merchandise efficiently and safely, including frequently lifting or moving merchandise up to 44 pounds without additional assistance from others.
  • Maintain a flexible work schedule (e.g., nights, weekends and holidays) with reliable and prompt attendance necessary.
  • Be capable of working in and exposure to varying temperatures, humidity, and other elements while performing certain job duties.
  • Ability to remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift.
