Job description

Manager Language Access

This position is responsible for the operations and people leadership of the Language Access Services Department in collaboration with the director, and functions as the department's EPIC subject matter expert. The incumbent is responsible for leading the team of interpreters and translators to provide the highest quality language services to inpatient and outpatient areas. The incumbent works with the director and senior leaders to develop and execute strategies and goals of the department and system. The incumbent establishes and ensures compliance with standards of care of regulatory bodies and system policies; monitors and analyzes financials to ensure meeting or exceeding budgetary performance goals; collaborates and participates with EPIC initiatives and committees, collaborates with other clinical and non-clinical teams, physicians, and leaders; and focuses on providing excellent customer service to patients, families and clinical staff.

Responsibilities :

  • Reviews, analyzes and resolves staff issues. Provides leadership through the identification of opportunities for best practice process improvements and involves staff in the development of programmatic changes, team building, and the resolution of operational issues. Performs annual performance evaluations, coordinates staff requests for time off and approvals and coordinates holiday coverage. Provides guidance to system-wide Language Access programs in other campuses like Plano, OCH, Complex Care, etc.
  • Collaborates with EPIC scheduling and EPIC update teams to guide system-wise processes for Language Access scheduling and programs.
  • Interviews, coordinates prescreening tests and hires new team members. Additionally coordinates a staffing program with the vendors and acts as a liaison between vendors and non-employee HR processing department.
  • Instructs and collaborates with lead team members on the training of new interpreters, translators and clinical staff, i.e. proper methods, professional ethics, and procedures; provides feedback to new interpreters and translators on their developmental progress.
  • Manages contract staffing with approved vendors.
  • Approves mileage, education and other expense reimbursements for staff. Responsible for ensuring staff has adequate supplies and equipment to perform daily work.
  • Assist the director with overall program management, productivity, department readiness initiatives (e.g. Joint Commission), EPIC data reports and assessment and assume the responsibilities of the Director during absences or as otherwise required.
  • Assist director with annual budget preparation by active participation in the LBP process and exploring and gathering staff budget requests prior to the annual budget process.
  • Provides accurate interpretation and translation as needed to support the team.
  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

How You'll Be Successful :

Work Experience :

  • At least 1 year both related and interpretation experience Required
  • At least 3 years both related and interpretation experience Preferred
  • Education :

    Four-year bachelor's degree or equivalent experience Required

    Licenses and Certifications :

    Certified Healthcare Interpreter or Certified Medical Interpreter 180 Days Required
