Job Title : Network Security Engineer

Role Summary / Purpose
The Network Security Engineer will be responsible for network traffic logging, monitoring, and security analytics across enterprise-critical systems. This role will work closely with infrastructure, cloud, and application teams to onboard networked applications and services into centralized monitoring platforms. The engineer will drive visibility, threat detection, and standardized security reporting across the environment.
Key Responsibilities Network Monitoring & Analytics
Build and optimize dashboards, alerts, and queries within Splunk or similar SIEM tools to identify abnormal network traffic patterns.
Perform network log analysis to detect anomalies, misconfigurations, and potential threats.
Standardize network security metrics and reporting to improve program oversight.
System & Application Onboarding
Collaborate with application, cloud, and infrastructure teams to determine network logging capabilities .
Assess network telemetry sources to determine onboarding readiness for SIEM ingestion.
Document data flows, dependencies, and logging requirements for each onboarded system.
Security Governance & Program Support
Track and communicate onboarding progress, risks, and deliverables to senior leadership.
Identify gaps in visibility, recommend remediations, and collaborate with teams to close gaps.
Support network security policies, standards, and best practices , ensuring compliance with internal security requirements.
Required Skills & Knowledge Experience
3+ years of total work experience , including 1+ year in network security engineering, security architecture, or closely related InfoSec domain .
In lieu of a degree : 5+ years relevant work experience.
Hands-on exposure to network security tools and technologies , including SIEMs, firewalls, IDS / IPS, or packet inspection tools.
Technical Skills
Strong experience with Splunk Cloud and SPL (Search Processing Language) for log analysis.
Solid understanding of network security fundamentals , including :
Authentication & authorization
RBAC
Network segmentation
TCP / IP, DNS, load balancing concepts
Experience working in cloud environments (PaaS / IaaS) -AWS, Azure, or GCP preferred.
Familiarity with Agile methodologies , Jira, and Jira Align.
Soft Skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and communicate security needs clearly.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience in SIEM-driven network threat detection or SOC engineering.
Understanding of Zero Trust Network Architecture (ZTNA) concepts.
Knowledge of network log sources such as firewall logs, VPC Flow Logs, NDR tools, and DNS logs.
