Candidates must be quick learners. Description : This position is for a Registered Nurse specializing in Oncology. You will work in a blood cancer unit with a total of 18 beds. The unit has a staff of 37, consisting of charge nurses, registered nurses, and certified nursing assistants. Night shift staffing includes one charge nurse without patient assignment and three to five registered nurses. The patient-to-nurse ratio is 3-4 : 1. Equipment used on the unit includes telemetry, bladder scanners, Alaris pumps, and EMR - Meditech. Typical procedures performed on this unit include lumbar punctures, bone marrow biopsies with and without conscious sedation, and thoracentesis. You will administer medications, blood, and electrolyte replacements on this unit. Chemo and biotherapy administration is only for certified nurses; education is provided for handling excreta associated with hazardous drugs. The unit has received recognition for excellence in quality measures and has a team culture that emphasizes collaboration and support among staff. Registered nurses on this unit primarily provide patient care with minimal reliance on patient care technicians.
