Position Summary : We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist (FGP) PART-TIME Staten Island. In this role, the successful candidate is responsible for performing medically prescribed nuclear medicine procedures and works under general direction.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the organizations Service Standards and incorporates them into the performance of duties.
  • Operates hospital and radiology information systems as they relate to nuclear medicine. Correctly chooses appropriate patient information from HIS / RIS system in accordance with HIPAA regulations. Demonstrates ability to access patient information such as appointment times, type of exam, and patient reports. Is knowledgeable of the total cycle of RIS patient tracking. Follows departmental policy of documenting beginning, completion and departure times, when appropriate, in the RIS. Demonstrates knowledge of the HIS and is able to access patient data for verification of orders. Competent in scheduling exams in RIS from the order entry queue and / or demonstrates the ability to modify exams when necessary.
  • Assesses patient information and status, follows appropriate procedures, identifies the correct patient, verifies patient identity, introduces self, reviews requisition and confirms exam details with medical staff as needed. Seeks supervisor guidance for difficult or questionable results. Follows nuclear medicine procedures and protocols and reviews manuals or references as necessary. Follows isolation precautions when indicated.
  • Independently implements patient procedures in accordance with departmental protocols and standards. explains the procedure and equipment to the patient, and obtains formal consent when necessary. Ensures patient comfort and privacy throughout the procedure.
  • Prepares radiopharmaceutical dose using proper procedures and dose calculations. Verifies label on radiopharmaceutical vial, calculates activity, and confirms activity using a dose calibrator. Calibrates and dispenses radioactive material; positions patient and equipment; determines display format of data; performs imaging and archives data; analyzes data and reports results to physician.
  • Solves problems during examinations using technical knowledge and innovation. Adjusts examinations to maximize information based on patient condition and collaborates with other technologists as needed.
  • Assists physicians during procedures; completes examinations in a timely manner. Transmits and / or segments data for PACS, prints high-quality image copies when needed, and maintains a clean procedure area. Prepares equipment and supplies for future exams; adjusts work patterns for STAT and emergency cases; recognizes a medical emergency and notifies appropriate staff.
  • Independently performs non-imaging procedures in accordance with departmental standards. Collects body fluid specimens as necessary, processes specimens, and operates counting equipment for in-vivo and in-vitro procedures.
  • Radiopharmacy - Prepares doses and standards, performs generator operations, and conducts safety checks and packaging disposal according to guidelines.
  • Radiation Control - Follows radiation safety guidelines, disposes of radioactive waste properly, conducts contamination surveys, and performs decontamination as needed.
  • Quality Control - Performs routine imaging system evaluations, calibrates dose equipment, and maintains quality control procedures to ensure accuracy.
  • Documentation - Maintains records for quality control, dose preparation and administration, receipt of radioactive materials, radiopharmaceuticals, and waste disposal, as well as contamination surveys and decontamination.
  • Equipment - Sets up and operates equipment, selects appropriate collimator and imaging parameters, maintains safety and reports malfunctions. Uses printers and related equipment as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

To qualify you must have an Associate Degree. Completion of a Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) recognized nuclear medicine technology program. Eligible to take certification exam in Nuclear Medicine by either the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB), The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), or a New York State License (Nuclear Medicine).

Required Licenses : Nuclear Med Tech Cert (NMTCB), Nuclear Medicine Technologist License, American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) (as applicable).

Preferred Qualifications

Completion of a Bachelor's Degree in nuclear medicine technology is preferred.

Salary : The salary range for the role is $54.47 - $60.63 hourly. Actual salaries depend on experience, education, and hospital need. This range does not include bonuses or other compensation.
