Marick Mechanical is a union-affiliated commercial mechanical services company. We specialize in HVAC and refrigeration systems for commercial and industrial facilities. We're seeking a licensed Journeyman HVAC / Refrigeration Technician to join our team and uphold our high-quality standards. The technician will install, maintain, and repair complex commercial HVAC and refrigeration systems. This role requires at least 5 years of hands-on experience and a valid union-recognized journeyman license. Candidates without a current license in Iowa must test through the union.

• Key Responsibilities

Perform preventative maintenance, service, diagnostics, and repairs on commercial HVAC and refrigeration systems (rooftop units, chillers, air handlers, coolers).

Install, troubleshoot, and maintain refrigeration systems (cold storage, walk-ins, freezer units).

Read blueprints, HVAC / R schematics, control diagrams, and technical documentation.

Ensure compliance with manufacturer specifications, NEC, local codes, and safety guidelines.

Maintain detailed job logs, service records, and parts usage documentation.

Identify opportunities for system upgrades, safety enhancements, and efficiency improvements.

Collaborate with general contractors, project managers, and other trades on-site.

Mentor apprentices or helper technicians; guide proper procedures and code compliance.

Travel regionally for service calls and projects (up to 300 miles from Des Moines).Work occasional night shifts or weekend emergency calls as needed.

Adhere strictly to OSHA standards, PPE protocols, and Marick Mechanical’s safety policies.

• Required Qualifications :

Valid Journey HVAC / Refrigeration license accepted by Local union (Omaha or otherwise).

Minimum 5 years of commercial HVAC / R experience.

Must pass Local union test if not already licensed in Omaha.

Proficient in reading schematics, wiring diagrams, and blueprints.

Experienced with commercial refrigerants (e.g., R-410A, R-22), brazing, and system charging.

Skilled with gauges, meters, manifold sets, psychrometric tools, and leak detectors.

Strong mechanical aptitude with ability to troubleshoot complex systems.

Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Must pass background check and drug screen.

• Physical Requirements :

Ability to lift / maneuver up to 50 lbs.

Comfortable climbing ladders, accessing rooftops, and confined space work.

Able to perform manual tasks, bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.

Able to work in restricted environments (cold / freezer units, rooftop exposure).

• Compensation & Benefits

Base wage : 41.70-51.06 hourly
