About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) to oversee and manage safety programs for a hospital construction project in Yuma, AZ. The SSHO will ensure the project complies with all OSHA regulations, state and local safety requirements, and the general contractor’s corporate safety policies. This position plays a key leadership role in promoting a strong safety culture on site, particularly within a healthcare environment where infection control and patient safety are critical.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain the Project Safety and Health Plan in compliance with OSHA standards and company policy.
- Conduct daily safety inspections and job hazard analyses (JHAs) to ensure safe work practices.
- Lead site safety orientations, toolbox talks, and ongoing safety training for all personnel.
- Monitor and enforce compliance with safety regulations, including PPE use, fall protection, confined space, and hazard communication .
- Oversee and manage infection control risk assessments (ICRAs) and coordinate with hospital representatives to maintain clean and safe work zones.
- Investigate and report all accidents, near-misses, and safety violations , identifying corrective actions and prevention measures.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date safety logs, inspection records, and reports.
- Collaborate with Superintendents, Project Managers, and Subcontractors to plan safe work methods and sequencing.
- Coordinate with third-party inspectors, safety consultants, and the owner’s safety team as required.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols specific to healthcare construction , including air quality, noise control, and emergency procedures.
Qualifications
5+ years of construction safety experience , including 2+ years in healthcare or hospital construction environments .In-depth knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1926 and applicable Arizona safety regulations.Experience managing infection control, MEP coordination, and interior renovation in active healthcare facilities preferred.OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification required.First Aid / CPR certification required.CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician) , STSC (Safety Trained Supervisor Construction) , or ASHE Healthcare Construction (HCC) certification preferred.Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence safe behaviors across all trades.Proficient in Procore, Microsoft Office, and safety management software .
