Position : School-Based Speech Language Pathologist
Division : Speech Department
Supervisor : Director of Pupil Personnel Services
Position Type : Full-time, 10-month position, Benefits Eligible
FLSA Status : Exempt
POSITION SUMMARY :
Promote communicative and linguistic competence and optimize outcomes for profoundly deaf students 3-21 years of age.
DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES :
Job responsibilities include but are not limited to :
- Planning and implementing individualized intervention strategies that foster communicative competence.
- Collaborating / consulting with classroom teachers.
- Selecting and conducting appropriate assessments based on individual student needs.
- Preparing evaluation summaries and annual review reports.
- Develop treatment plans (IEPs) that are strength-based for overall educational improvement.
- Participating in IEP meetings.
- Engaging in continuing education and professional growth activities.
- Create and enforce a positive culture of learning, respect, and rapport in line with the school’s Strategic Planning initiatives. Demonstrate commitment to the school purpose, vision, and mission
- Other duties as are appropriate and assigned by supervisor.
REQUIRED SKILLS / ABILITIES :
Excellent verbal and written communication skillsExcellent interpersonal and communication skills including proficiency in English and American Sign Language (ASL)Excellent interpersonal skillsExcellent organizational skills and attention to detailExcellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlinesStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsAbility to prioritize tasks and delegate them when appropriateProficiency in American Sign Language required.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and related softwareEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
Candidates must have the following credentials :CCC-SLP (Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology)May have CF-SLP (Clinical Fellowship in Speech Language Pathology)Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited programASHA membershipTSHH or TSSLD certificateKnowledge of American Sign LanguageExperience working with Deaf students is desirableSECURITY CLEARANCE :
Required clearance includes medical clearance, fingerprinted by the NYC Board of Ed, and SCR and SEL clearancePHYSICAL REQUIREMENT :
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.Prolonged periods of walking around in and outside of the building.Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
