About City Year
City Year is a dynamic AmeriCorps program dedicated to empowering students in schools. Our teams of AmeriCorps members play a critical role in nurturing academic success and creating supportive learning environments, ensuring students receive a quality education while developing the necessary skills to thrive in their communities.
Your Impact as a City Year AmeriCorps Member
In this vital role, you will serve as a coach and mentor to elementary, middle, and / or high school students, supporting their academic achievements, attendance, and personal development. You will closely monitor individual student progress and collaborate with teachers to create impactful instructional experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Work directly with students in small groups and one-on-one to foster academic coaching and skill development.
- Implement targeted literacy and math initiatives tailored to each student's learning level, encouraging engagement and assignment completion.
- Develop and maintain an effective behavior management system within the classroom.
- Enhance interpersonal skills by incorporating proven learning strategies, including practice, reflection, and repetition.
- Collaborate with educators to track and analyze student progress using City Year's student data system.
- Create a safe, engaging, and healthy classroom environment in partnership with teachers.
- Contribute to whole school initiatives designed to boost student and family engagement.
- Lead or support after-school programming, including academic enrichment, recreation, and leadership development.
- Organize and participate in events recognizing student achievements in various areas such as literacy and behavior.
