Residential Counselor (Cowell) at Lifeworks

The Role

As an Assistant Teacher / Counselor at Lifeworks, you will provide direct supports to the people we serve, teach and provide activities of daily living, and help individuals be an inclusive part of their community. You will be based in a Lifeworks home and may receive a staff retention bonus upon joining.

Responsibilities

  • Promotes optimal health for individuals through routine, preventive, and emergency health care.
  • Assist with hands-on direct care including showering, toileting, shaving, helping with meal times, and related activities.
  • Ensure residential environments are safe and secure for individuals.
  • Provide education, training, counseling, and physical assistance to achieve ISP goals in areas such as functional academics, domestic skills, health and personal hygiene, social and leisure skills, communication, community mobility, self-esteem, and money management.
  • Develop, write, and present annual ISPs and semi-annual assessments in collaboration with residential staff and directors.
  • Provide transportation to individuals as necessary.
  • Communicate with significant others (family, guardians, funding sources, advocates, etc.) to facilitate consistent programming and support.
  • Perform case management duties including maintenance of confidential files, documentation, and attending meetings as necessary.

  • Qualifications

  • Driver's License and personal vehicle (Preferred).
  • Bachelor's degree, 2 years associate degree, or 5 years related work experience (Required).
