Job description

CNC Milling Specialist — Precision Plastics

Location : Wallingford, CT (Onsite at Controlled Fluidics — 1262 Old Colony Rd., Wallingford, CT 06492)

Schedule : 1st Shift, Monday–Friday, 6 : 00 a.m. – 4 : 00 p.m.

Compensation : Starting at $25.00 / hour, up to $29.00 / hour based on experience; full-time, hourly

A day in the life

You clock in at 6 : 00 a.m., review the work orders, and get to work setting up HAAS vertical machining centers for a run of precision plastic manifolds. You verify fixtures, pick the right cutting tools and holders, and load programs using G & M code. First-article inspections follow, using micrometers and other metrology to lock in quality. Through the morning, you move between 3–5-axis mills, a lathe, and specialized equipment—drilling, tapping, reaming, chamfering, and cutting. You monitor productivity, adjust offsets, and troubleshoot to keep throughput at or above plan while reducing scrap and rework. Paperwork stays clean and legible; data sheets, timecards, and inspection records are up to date. By afternoon, you’re setting up the next job, communicating machine status to the next operator, and tidying a safe, orderly workstation before you head out at 4 : 00 p.m.

What you’ll own

  • Set up and operate vertical machining centers, lathes, and 3–5 axis CNC milling machines for plastic components and manifolds
  • Perform forming, drilling, tapping, reaming, chamfering, and cutting operations
  • Ensure product quality using appropriate inspection techniques and measuring instruments
  • Maintain 100%+ productivity through efficient setups and reliable operation while protecting schedule commitments
  • Minimize scrap and rework via correct use of gauges, visual / mechanical inspections, and accurate records
  • Identify potential issues early to uphold quality standards
  • Foster a positive team environment with clear, respectful communication
  • Keep documentation accurate, neat, and legible to avoid costly errors
  • Maintain a clean, safe workstation and follow all safety and housekeeping practices
  • Accurately complete records, data sheets, work orders, and timecards
  • Develop skills for greater flexibility across the department
  • Troubleshoot issues and perform setups for new jobs
  • Support additional projects and duties as assigned

Minimum qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 2+ years of experience operating CNC milling machines
  • 1+ year of blueprint reading
  • Core competencies

  • Basic computer skills for retrieving work instructions, recording inspection data, and time entry
  • Certified use and care of basic metrology (e.g., micrometers)
  • Multitasking and strong time management
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Apply common-sense understanding to follow detailed written or verbal instructions
  • Team-oriented with solid interpersonal and communication skills
  • Clear written and verbal communication
  • Strong knowledge of measuring instruments
  • Proficiency with G & M code
  • Strong knowledge of cutting tools and holders
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds only with assistance or material handling equipment
  • Preferred experience

  • Precision machining of plastics
  • Experience with CMMs and other inspection equipment
  • Familiarity with ERP systems
  • Travel & work arrangement

Role is based onsite in Wallingford, CT; no travel required.
