Job description

Customer Service Associate Team Leader

Scope of Position :

Responsible for the scheduling of OR surgery / procedure cases. Contacts insurance providers to obtain pre-authorization of surgical procedures and diagnostic testing. Provides support to front office operations to ensure smooth flow of patient care.

Responsibilities :

  • Responsible for the coordination and scheduling of all OR surgeries and procedures, to include pre-op, medical clearance, and post-op appointments.
  • Verifies patient demographics and obtains pre-certifications for all surgeries and procedures from insurance carriers.
  • Instructs patients on procedure protocol and responds to patient's questions and concerns.
  • Acts as a liaison between referring physicians and surgeons for the communication of clinical data and to determine OR scheduling.
  • Ensures that all pre-op processes and forms are completed and forwarded to the OR.
  • Functions as a back-up to the front office staff as necessary.
  • Performs automated functions that fall within job responsibility.

Knowledge, Abilities :

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, patient relations and telephone skills required
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and electronic medical records / systems
  • Familiarity with commercial insurance processes
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Minimum requirements :

  • Associates Degree preferred or a minimum of 1 year supervisory experience.
  • 3 to 5 years work experience in patient registration, reception within the hospital system, CIA
  • Knowledge and ability in the use of computers, and computer system
  • Must have basic computer skills and ability to access internet and other programs applicable to Waterbury Hospital procedures.

    Environmental and Working Conditions :

    Normal medical office environment.

    Physical and Mental Demands :

    Requires sitting for extensive periods of time. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Frequent standing, bending, stooping and stretching is required.
