The Clerk and Recorder's Office has an opening for a Motor Vehicle Specialist or Senior Motor Vehicle Specialist.
Motor Vehicle Specialist:
- The Motor Vehicle (MV) Specialist is responsible for providing excellent customer service, maintaining a positive attitude and being an effective team player while performing a variety of duties associated with Arapahoe County’s Motor Vehicle division. This is an entry level position and must complete an 8 week in house training and maintain a satisfactory performance rating. Upon successful completion, the MV Specialist will have basic knowledge of Colorado requirements and be proficient in the motor vehicle system.
- The MV Specialist may be reviewed after a period of hands-on training to determine eligibility to progress to the next level. Progression is determined by various factors, including but limited to; performance, error rates, professionalism, customer service skills, ability to remain calm and effectively communicate in a stressful and demanding work environment, punctuality and attendance, and the ability to establish effective working relationships with peers, the public and management.
- With NO prior experience performing Motor Vehicle functions or working in a Motor Vehicle office, our anticipated starting rate is: $21.00/hour
Senior Motor Vehicle Specialist: - The Senior Motor Vehicle (MV) Specialist is responsible for providing excellent customer service, maintaining a positive attitude and being an effective team player while performing a variety of complex duties associated with Arapahoe County’s Motor Vehicle division. The Senior MV Specialist must have successfully met the proficiency standards, primary duties, and job function requirements of the MV Specialist and is required to work independently on all transactions performed as a MV Specialist. This position holds a higher level of knowledge within motor vehicle and provides additional complex support.
NOTE: - The anticipated hiring range for a Motor Vehicle specialist is $21.00 to $22.28 per hour, dependent upon qualifications.
- The anticipated hiring range for a Senior Motor Vehicle specialist is $21.55 to $26.94 per hour, dependent upon qualifications.
Duties

MOTOR VEHICLE SPECIALIST:
- Assist customers via phone, mail, email or in person.
- Collect fees and reconcile cash drawer daily.
- Conduct the following types of transactions:Processing temporary registrations and permits Emissions extensions License plate renewals New registration Refinances Add liens o Title transfers to include in and out of state Leases and buy outs Disability placard issuance o Special mobile machinery Bond affidavits Bill of sale Salvage and manufactured homes Expected to learn, understand, and stay current on all legislation regarding Motor Vehicle
- May assist with Election related duties
SENIOR MOTOR VEHICLE SPECIALIST: - Independently performs Motor Vehicle Specialist transactions.
- Collect fees and reconcile cash drawer daily.
- Provides assistance, guidance, and share knowledge with MV Specialist.
- Assists management with replying to customer inquiries via phone, email, or mail.
- Assist all customers via phone, mail, email or in person.
- Assists with bookkeeping duties.
- Assists with classroom and/or counter training.
- Conducts research, identifies, and resolves complex title/registration issues.
- May assist with Election related duties.
- May assist with Special projects.
- May assist in Fleet, dealer titles, duplicate titles, and other back-office duties.
- Expected to learn, understand, and stay current on all legislation regarding Motor Vehicle.
SKILLS & ABILITIES: - Ability to read, understand, and interpret state statues, regulations, and procedures applicable to the Motor Vehicle division.
- Ability to become proficient in using and understanding the functions of the computerized Motor Vehicle system.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to research multiple sources for information.
- Ability to memorize information and handle cash with a high degree of accuracy.
- Ability to multi task in a high stress environment is essential.

Requirements
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
MOTOR VEHICLE SPECIALIST:
- HS diploma or GED
- 1-2 years general office experience
- Any equivalent combination of education and work experience that satisfy the requirements of the job will be considered
SENIOR MOTOR VEHICLE SPECIALIST: - HS diploma or GED
- Meets satisfactory performance standards as a Motor Vehicle Specialist
- Any equivalent combination of education and work experience that satisfy the requirements of the job will be considered.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: - Customer Service and cash handling

WORK ENVIRONMENT: - Work is generally confined to a standard office environment.
