Respiratory Therapist (RT) – Long Term Acute Care (LTAC)
Summary
Provide respiratory care for patients with prolonged acute illness—ventilator management, trach care, weaning, and patient / family education—in a long-term acute care hospital.
Key Duties
Initiate / monitor mechanical ventilation (invasive & non-invasive)
Manage tracheostomies and artificial airways
Administer respiratory treatments (meds, aerosol, chest physio, suctioning)
Perform diagnostic procedures (ABGs, pulse-oximetry, pulmonary function tests)
Educate patients / families on care and safety
Document care, maintain equipment, follow protocols & infection control
Requirements
Associate’s degree in Respiratory Therapy (Bachelor’s preferred)
Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or equivalent state licensure
ACLS, BLS certification (AHA)
Experience in ventilator and trach care (LTAC or similar highly preferred)
Strong assessment, communication, and teamwork skills
