Description : The position involves working in a fast-paced emergency department. RNs will encounter a diverse patient population with various medical needs. Common diagnoses include acute illness, severe injuries, chest pain, respiratory distress, neurological events, allergic reactions, and psychiatric emergencies. Traumas such as stabbings, shootings, fractures, burns, and domestic injuries are also prevalent. Nurse-to-patient ratios vary based on patient stability, with a typical ratio of 1 : 4 for stable patients and 1 : 1 or 1 : 2 for critically ill patients. Staffing levels may adjust dynamically based on patient influx and acuity. RNs are required to read and interpret their own strips. There is a full radiology department adjacent to the emergency department. RNs may draw blood as indicated and are supported by lab staff when available. Shifts are scheduled based on a rotating day / night basis. Weekend and holiday requirements are mandatory. RNs may float to other units based on staffing needs and skill set. Successful candidates will possess critical thinking skills, effective communication, adaptability, teamwork, empathy, compassion, clinical competence, time management, and professionalism.
