Operations Control Center Supervisor

    The full pay range for this role is $40.00 to $67.00 per hour. The target range for this position is $45.00 to $55.00 per hour. We generally base our salary decisions on factors such as internal equity, candidate work and leadership experience, educational credentials, and in some cases, candidate work location.

    The OCC Supervisor will provide professional and efficient supervision of the Operations Control Center and its staff. He / she will supervise and support a team of Control Center Operators by directing workflow and monitoring the OCC and its staff's performance. The OCC Supervisor will ensure safe and accurate monitoring and control of renewable energy assets in order to minimize production losses and maximize efficiency and generation while complying with contractual obligations and all applicable North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) standards and practices. The OCC Supervisor is responsible and accountable for all operational issues that occur in the OCC during their shift work assignments.

    There may be up to 5 weeks of required training to take place at our Albert Lea, Minnesota Training facility upon hire.

    Responsibilities

    Directs staff in monitoring and identifying performance issues to maximize plant productivity.

    Maintains records of OCC operation and personnel status.

    Will be on-call for emergency situations at OCC and must be willing to work other shifts as required.

    Maintains a positive, professional work environment that fosters collaboration and teamwork.

    Assures all procedures, policies, and personnel are working together to provide service to OCC customers.

    Trains staff on all required guidelines, processes and procedures and ensures that they are followed.

    Provides personnel supervision within the dynamics of the OCC's 24 / 7 / 365 multi-shift work environment.

    Schedules 24 / 7 OCC coverage with multi-person crew shifts.

    Responsible for providing the OCC Manager and / or Director detailed information (both verbal and written) regarding individual personnel's actions, when discipline and / or discharge is being considered.

    Assists maintenance teams to troubleshoot problems and ascertain probable cause.

    Performs tasks of level II Operator in the absence of Level II personnel.

    Responsibilities as Control Center Operator below :

    Directs electrical substation switching using a detailed understanding of the Company's electrical switching practices.

    Uses OEM or Enterprise SCADA to adjust plant control setpoints such as active and reactive power of the company's generating units.

    Ensures asset, meteorological, and substation data integrity for internal databases used for reporting purposes and by external entity's real-time operations.

    Monitors and analyzes assets to identify performance issues and troubleshoot with multiple parties for identification and resolution across at the project and potentially across the fleet.

    Performs troubleshooting of plant control systems or telemetry issues between multiple entities. Including the coordination and communication of issues, statuses, to multiple parties.

    Develops and implements effective strategies to maximize the generating assets value by capturing profit opportunities when possible.

    Works with maintenance to troubleshoot problems and ascertains probable cause.

    Maintains understanding of the compliance requirements where owned and third-party assets are located.

    Performs diagnostic analysis of operating data to assess operating performance and make recommendations for improvement.

    Assists with triage management and coordination of simultaneous plant event management amongst the OCC team.

    Supervises OCC Operators in the absence of supervisory personnel, and provides direction and advice to Operators on technical issues relating to system performance and operation.

    Is involved in functional testing during the commissioning or onboarding of new projects.

    Assists maintenance teams to troubleshoot problems and ascertain probable cause.

    Maintains safe, reliable, and efficient operation by quickly responding to changing conditions in order to maximize availability and generation by operating facilities within all applicable permits, electrical system procedures, contractual obligations, and company objectives.

    Responds to changing conditions with regard to maximizing plant safety and efficiency.

    Visually monitors and reads parameters, data points, and sensor outputs at specified intervals to verify operating conditions and to detect faults and malfunctions.

    Monitors data such as weather conditions including wind speed, direction, turbulence, irradiance, storms, or equipment temperatures, voltage, current, power, and VAR's.

    Coordinates with regional personnel and system operators from other companies on forced or scheduled outages, including operational directives. Utilizes accurate and efficient three-way communication skills on inbound and outbound telephone conversations.

    Adjusts manual controls or verifies automatic controls to bring equipment into recommended or prescribed operating ranges, based on utility / ISO / customer requirements. Accurately changes control equipment setpoints.

    Ensures quality and accuracy of real-time generation information being telemetered to RTO / ISO and takes actions to correct abnormalities.

    Records operation actions taken during shift in operator's logbook or other automated logging mechanisms.

    Anticipates typical problems, identifies potential or recurring problems, discovers opportunities for improvements, and takes appropriate action.

    Is proficient in operating computers, the OCC's Integrated SCADA system, and all other plant SCADA systems used in monitoring and controlling plant operations.

    Uses weather information from weather services and interconnected companies to respond to load demand changes as directed through curtailment orders and outage directives.

    Ensures compliance to all regulatory and contractual requirements through adherence to all operational procedures, processes, and policies.

    Completes applicable safety program training requirements per the IIPP annually. Reads, understands, and applies information such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

    All other duties as assigned.

    Working Conditions : Normal office environment where 90% of the time is spent in the office, working at a desk / workstation and 10% of the time traveling to offsite meetings as needed.

    Qualifications

    Minimum five (5) years of supervisory experience preferred, with emphasis on 24 / 7 shift work (power plant environment).

    Bachelors degree in technical curriculum or equivalent business / military experience preferred.

    Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

    Must show ability to multi-task.

    Must demonstrate excellent computer and networking skills.

    High level of expertise with Microsoft Office Suite.

    Must be familiar with industrial communications and SCADA equipment.

    Understanding or experience with NERC, FERC and system operator requirements.

    Must possess and maintain NERC Balancing and Interchange certification or ability to attain certification within 12 months.
