Our client, a rapidly growing, privately held oil and gas company, is seeking a Senior Accountant to join its dynamic and high-performing team. Specializing in the identification, acquisition, and development of oil and gas properties, the company is led by an exceptional leadership team with a strong and proven track record of success in the industry.
This newly created position —driven by continued growth—offers high visibility reporting directly to the Controller . It’s an opportunity to take ownership of critical accounting functions, work closely with senior leadership, and have a tangible impact on the financial operations of a well-capitalized, strategically expanding organization.
About the Role
As Senior Accountant, you’ll own key areas of the month-end and year-end close, prepare and review financial statements, and oversee complex upstream oil & gas accounting entries. You’ll collaborate across departments to ensure data accuracy, bring insight to leadership through reporting and analysis, and continually refine processes for efficiency and scale.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead month-end and year-end close activities, ensuring timeliness and GAAP compliance
- Prepare and review key journal entries (derivatives, depletion, ARO, amortization, depreciation, prepaid accounts, interest, etc.)
- Manage balance sheet reconciliations and maintain supporting schedules
- Reconcile intercompany and related-party accounts, resolving discrepancies quickly
- Draft monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statement packages, including cash flow statements, roll-forwards, and variance analyses
- Partner with auditors during interim and year-end audits, coordinating PBC requests and addressing control questions
- Review new contracts and advise on appropriate accounting treatment
- Identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities within the accounting function
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field8+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in upstream oil & gasStrong GAAP knowledge with hands-on experience in DD&A, ARO, and derivative accountingExperience with Quorum OnDemand or OGsys is a plusAdvanced Excel skills with the ability to analyze and interpret complex dataCPA preferred but not requiredWhat Our Client Offers
