Responsibilities include reading designs, installing tools and workpieces, operating both manual and CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines, monitoring quality, performing routine maintenance, and inspecting finished parts for accuracy and defects.
Primarily maintenance machining, supporting power generation by handling equipment overhauls, manufacturing replacement parts, and general machining activities, rather than high production work.
The team consists of 8 to 10 machinists, split into shifts during peak periods, with a mix of junior and senior technicians; machinists are expected to work both collaboratively on projects and independently on specific tasks.
The core shift is Monday through Friday, 6 : 00 AM to 2 : 30 PM, but during outages or peak demand, the team operates on two shifts with 12-hour coverage, sometimes ramping up to 24 / 7 operations.
To integrate into a high-performing, supportive team, participating in daily safety briefs and adapting to both team-based and independent work environments.
Qualifications :
While journeyman-level apprenticeship certification is preferred, candidates with at least 5 years of relevant machining experience are considered; a minimum of High school education is required.
A skilled tradesperson with 6+ years of experience who sets up and operates machine tools, such as lathes and milling machines, to produce precision metal parts according to blueprints and technical drawings.
Key skills for a machinist are strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, precision, and the ability to work with both manual and advanced machinery.
Must demonstrate proficiency in manual machining tasks such as operating engine lathes, milling machines, grinders, and CNC equipment, as well as precision measurement using micrometers and calipers.
Experience with CAD / CAM software and CNC programming is considered a plus; basic computer skills
Power generation experience is advantageous, machinists from industries like shipyards and steel mills have been successful, as the core machining tasks are universal across sectors.

Technical Certification Bonus : Synectics is pleased to award its employees a bonus of up to $500 for an approved professional certification. In determining the bonus amount, Synectics will consider the cost of the test(s) for any certification relating to your current position, achieved during your employment with us. Only one Certification Bonus per calendar year may be awarded per employee. Only current, active employees will be eligible to receive this bonus. It will be awarded 90 days after the Synectics office has received documentation confirming the successful completion of the certification.
