Job Description : Summary :
The Medical Technologist is responsible for the independent performance of complex and specialized testing to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Required to demonstrate both practical knowledge and theoretical understanding of procedures in the clinical areas. Expected to have a comprehensive understanding of the specific principles used in diagnostic testing in order to recognize deviations in expected results, analyze technical problems and make necessary corrections to achieve quality results. The ability to operate and maintain a variety of complex scientific equipment is a requirement of this job. Responsibilities include moderate troubleshooting and repair of selected instrumentation. The abilities to recognize quality control deviations; communicate problems to management, pathologists, as well as staff members; and assist with problem resolutions are also requirements.
Requirements :
Completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved by the Health Education and Welfare Academic and Sciences Program prior to 1980 or the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as of 1980; or
Meet CLIA Standard; Testing personnel qualification 42CFR493.1423 for moderate complexity testing and 42CFR493.1489 for high complexity testing.
Johnson City Medical Center Technologists performing Clinical Trial testing must meet the State of New York Department of Health Part 58-1 of 10 NYCRR Clinical Laboratories Standards 58-1.5, duties and qualification of clinical laboratory technical personnel. A State of Tennessee License is not required.
Certification by the ASCP, AMT, or other organization deemed comparable is not required but preferred.
High School Diploma or equivalent.
