The unit consists of 26 beds. Patient ratios are typically 1 : 4 or 1 : 5. The hospital uses the EPIC electronic medical record (EMR) system. Nurses may be assigned to charge responsibilities while managing patient care. Nurse aides are available, with a ratio of 1 tech to 9 patients. Weekend work is required every other weekend, including Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Nurses will also be expected to work every other holiday. Scrub color is not mandated, and nurses may wear their own scrubs. Central telemonitoring is available for patient observation. Common patient diagnoses include CHF, COVID pneumonia, Afib with RVR, tachy / brady syndrome, and syncope. There is no requirement for ventilator management, but Bipap, Cpap, and HF / Vapotherm support are utilized. There is a hospitalist on site from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., followed by an advanced practice nurse with e-hospitalist support. The pharmacy operates 24 / 7, but nursing staff do not mix medications. Shifts are scheduled from 7 p.m. to 7 : 30 a.m., with no block scheduling, though consecutive night shifts may be accommodated. Traveling nurses are expected to float to other areas as designated, maintaining the same patient ratios. Orientation includes one hospital-wide shift and two unit-specific shifts, including one day and one night. There is a cancellation policy in place requiring notice for shift changes.
