As a Perception Tech Lead , you'll play a pivotal role in driving the development of real-time perception systems that power ASI's autonomous vehicles. You'll combine hands-on technical expertise with leadership responsibilities - guiding perception engineers, conducting design and code reviews, and influencing the overall perception architecture.
This role requires deep expertise in computer vision and sensor fusion (LiDAR, radar, camera) as well as experience deploying AI / ML pipelines for tasks like detection, tracking, classification, and localization. You'll balance classical algorithms with modern machine learning to deliver robust, real-time performance in challenging outdoor environments.
Responsibilities
Lead and mentor Perception Engineers, guiding career growth, algorithms, and coding best practices.
Conduct design and code reviews to ensure scalable, high-quality perception software.
Design and deploy advanced pipelines for multi-sensor fusion, tracking, and object detection .
Develop robust, real-time C++17 applications for embedded Linux platforms.
Support field deployment and improve robustness in GPS-denied and adverse conditions.
Collaborate with architecture, planning, and controls teams to ensure system-wide reliability.
Provide technical leadership on high-impact projects and help shape technology roadmaps.
Stay current with the latest in perception and AI / ML research, bringing innovation into ASI's stack.
Required Qualifications
Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
8+ years of experience in perception for robotics, autonomous vehicles, or outdoor systems .
Strong proficiency in C++17 or newer and multi-threaded development.
Deep expertise in LiDAR, radar, and camera data processing and probabilistic robotics algorithms.
Experience designing and deploying real-time perception systems .
Familiarity with embedded Linux and real-time middleware.
Proven ability to lead code reviews and design reviews .
Experience mentoring and guiding engineering teams.
Background with ML model development or GPU acceleration for embedded applications .
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with ROS2, GMSL2, and communication protocols (UDP, CAN).
Experience with object detection, classification, and edge-case handling .
Knowledge of outdoor GNSS-denied localization strategies .
Industry experience in heavy machinery, automotive, or field robotics .
Familiarity with functional safety concepts (e.g., IEC 61508, MISRA C++).
