The Director of Strategic Portfolio Operations is a key leadership role responsible for driving enterprise-wide planning, operational rhythms, and strategic alignment across the CTO organization and Lumen. This role serves as the connective tissue between product, engineering, and transformation teams, ensuring that quarterly planning, initiative intake, and portfolio dependencies are managed with precision and transparency. As a trusted partner to senior leadership, this leader will facilitate operational reviews, liaise with the Lumen Transformation Office, and enable disciplined execution of strategic priorities.

This is a remote opportunity open to candidates located anywhere in the U.S.

The Main Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate quarterly planning cycles across CTO and partner organizations.
  • Manage intake processes for strategic initiatives, ensuring clarity, prioritization, and alignment with enterprise goals.
  • Partner with Finance, Strategy, and Transformation teams to ensure planning inputs and outputs are integrated across functions.
  • Facilitate monthly and quarterly operational reviews, business rhythms, and executive updates.
  • Establish and maintain governance models to support consistent execution and decision-making.
  • Drive accountability through structured reviews, retrospectives, and performance tracking.
  • Develop and maintain an executive level comprehensive view of cross-functional dependencies across the product and engineering portfolio.
  • Identify and mitigate risks related to delivery, resource constraints, and strategic alignment.
  • Enable proactive scenario planning and decision support for leadership.
  • Serve as the primary liaison to the Lumen Transformation Office, ensuring transparency and alignment across enterprise initiatives.
  • Translate transformation goals into actionable plans and track progress against key milestones.
  • Support change management efforts to drive adoption of new processes and tools.

What We Look For in a Candidate

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, or related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in strategic planning, portfolio operations, or program management in a technology or enterprise environment.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional planning and governance processes.
  • Deep expertise with investment and product tools (e.g., Jira, Clarity, Aha)
  • Strong understanding of enterprise transformation, planning cycles, and operational rhythms.
  • Exceptional communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience working in matrixed organizations and driving alignment across diverse teams.
  • Compensation : This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors.

    Location Based Pay Ranges : $149,084 - $198,779 in these states : AL AR AZ FL GA IA ID IN KS KY LA ME MO MS MT ND NE NM OH OK PA SC SD TN UT VT WI WV WY

    $156,539 - $208,718 in these states : CO HI MI MN NC NH NV OR RI

    $163,993 - $218,657 in these states : AK CA CT DC DE IL MA MD NJ NY TX VA WA
