Description of Work Unit

Veterinary Teaching Hospital

At the CSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital ( VTH ) we exist to educate the next generation of veterinarians by providing exceptional veterinary care and service to the community every day. This work unit exists to provide administration and direction of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital and provide a support facility for service to the general public and referring veterinarians. Playing a critical role in training new surgeons and maintaining the health of the Small Animal Surgery Service.

Position Summary

The successful candidate should have a strong interest in orthopedic surgery for treatment of lameness caused by disease and / or injury in dogs and cats. The successful candidate is expected to provide superior patient care by utilizing CSU's cutting-edge surgical instrumentation and diagnostic technologies as indicated. Clinical duties will consist of supervision of patient & client care for small animal patients presented to the Small Animal Orthopedic Surgery Service. Our hospital has a unique Small Animal Orthopedic Medicine service that focuses upon lameness diagnosis and non-surgical treatments. This service structure allows our Small Animal Orthopedic Surgeons to focus on providing cutting-edge surgical therapies and assessing treatment outcomes. Duties of the successful candidate will include teaching of veterinary students, interns and residents. Participation in weekly case presentations, journal clubs and daily case rounds will be encouraged. The successful candidate will work closely with other small animal orthopedic surgery faculty (2 ACVSDiplomates) as well as small animal orthopedic medicine faculty (1 ACVSMR 1 ECVS / ACVS / ACVSMR Diplomate).

We are pleased to offer flexibility for this position, allowing the selected candidate to choose a work schedule between 0.75 Full-Time Equivalent ( FTE ) and 1.0 FTE . This means you can negotiate a set work week ranging from 30 to 40 hours, depending on your preferences and needs. This position will start as a one-year term with the option to renew based upon funding availability.

A signing bonus may be available for qualified applicants.

Required Job Qualifications

A DVM or equivalent degree.

American College of Veterinary Surgery ( ACVS ) or European College of Veterinary Surgery ( ECVS ) board certification or eligibility by start date.

Eligibility to obtain a State of Colorado Academic Veterinarian license.

Develop and implement treatment plans, follow-up care, and rehabilitation strategies tailored to individual patient needs.
