Newspaper Layout / Ad Designer Job at O'Rourke Media Group in Phoenix

O’Rourke Media Group is recruiting for a dynamic, versatile Newspaper Layout / Ad Designer. This position is remote but preferably lives in the Greater Phoenix area.  Hours are 8 a.m. to 4 : 30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The Newspaper Layout and Ad Designer is responsible for creating visually compelling and effective layouts for multiple newspaper titles, sections including news, features, special sections and advertisements. This role requires an excellent eye for design, strong technical skills with design software, and the ability to work collaboratively and independently under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Page Layout : Design and arrange newspaper pages, placing articles, images, and other graphic elements to ensure an aesthetically pleasing and logical flow for readers.
• Advertisement Creation : Develop and design eye-catching advertisements for clients, ensuring that ads are aligned with the client's brand guidelines and marketing objectives in both print and digital mediums.
• Collaboration : Work closely with editors and sales teams to integrate content and advertisements smoothly into the final publication.
• Brand and Style Consistency : Maintain and enforce each newspaper's established design and typography style throughout every page.
• Pre-press Production : Prepare final page layouts for printing, ensuring all files are correctly formatted and meet technical specifications.
• Problem-solving : Manage last-minute changes and breaking news, adjusting layouts and accommodating new content while keeping to strict deadlines.
• File Management : Maintain and organize production files, including images, fonts, and final layouts, for easy archiving and retrieval.
• Innovation : Stay up-to-date with current graphic design trends and publishing software to ensure the newspaper remains visually modern and engaging.
