Position Overview The MS / Tele Oncology unit provides specialized care for adult and geriatric patients with medical-surgical and telemetry needs, focusing on oncology patients requiring chemotherapy, infusion therapy, and complex symptom management. Nurses are expected to float within the specialty and lower acuity units as needed and collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient care.
Requirements Licensure : Active MD RN License or Compact License – Required (Must be in hand at submission)
Experience : Minimum 2 years nursing experience – Required
Patient Ratio Experience : Comfortable with 1 : 6 ratio at night – Required
Travel Experience : Not Accepted (First-time travelers accepted)
Local Radius Rule : Locals within 50 miles – Not Accepted
Certifications BLS (AHA) – Required
ACLS (AHA) – Preferred
Chemotherapy Certification (ONS / ONCC) – Preferred
NIHSS – Preferred
Charting System Epic – Required
Core Skills & Competencies Oncology & Infusion Therapy
IV therapy and infusion management
Accessing and managing ports
Administration of chemotherapy, blood products, antifungals, antivirals
Management of oncologic emergencies (e.g., Acute Tumor Lysis Syndrome, anaphylaxis, extravasation injury)
Care of central lines, PICC lines, implanted lines
Cytotoxic spill management
Oral and IV push chemotherapy administration
Patient Care & Symptom Management
Psychosocial care and patient / family education
Advanced directives and hospice care support
Symptom management including nausea, neuropathy, altered mental status, edema
Pain management with PCA pumps, IV push narcotics, transdermal patches
Professional Skills
Isolation and neutropenic precautions
Telemetry interpretation and monitoring
Phlebotomy and central line blood draws
Wound care, tracheostomy care, chest tube management
Post-surgical and radiation therapy care

Interdisciplinary Support : IV Teams, Physical Therapy, Respiratory Services, Phlebotomy, Social Services, Rapid Response Teams, Pharmacy, Transportation, Unit Secretary
Scheduling Float Required : Yes, within specialty and lower acuity units
Weekend Coverage : Every Other Weekend
Block Schedule : No
Pre-approved RTO : 2 requests allowed
Holiday Work : Required as scheduled
