Job Opportunity: Shareholder Communications Agent

The National Campaigns Unit provides shareholder communications for public companies on behalf of internal clients such as Computershare and Georgeson. This project is to support their Fall Proxy, which plays a central role in helping companies manage their annual meetings and voting processes. This typically involves helping companies communicate with shareholders about key issues that require a vote, such as electing board members, approving executive compensation, and other governance matters. They distribute proxy materials, collect votes online, by mail, or phone, and record the votes securely. They also handle the printing and mailing of proxy statements, annual reports, and voting instructions. These mailings can be delivered by digital delivery or physical mail, and once the shareholder receives the communication, this can prompt them to call in to provide a vote.

Each project handled has an upcoming Board of Directors meeting scheduled, where they are trying to gather a certain number of votes to adjourn the items they need to vote on. These meetings can be in person, virtual, or hybrid, and Computershare helps organize and run the event by assisting with registration, vote tabulation, and post-meeting reporting. Shareholder communications include inbound, outbound, and email responses. Agents are held to closing votes, with the AM shift primarily receiving inbound calls and the PM shift primarily placing outbound calls. A lot of the questions that come are those seeking clarity or assistance with voting. Calls typically involve understanding how to vote online, phone, or mail, wanting to know specific items on the ballot mean, asking for paper copies of proxy statements, and updating their vote.

What are companies trying to get votes on? Board of Directors elections to elect or re-elect board members who oversee company strategy, executive compensation to express approval or disapproval of how top executives are paid, mergers and acquisitions to approve major corporate changes, proposals to include topics like environmental policies, diversity initiatives, or governance reforms, and auditor ratification to vote to approve the company's choice of external auditor.

This project is for their Spring Proxy and is tentatively slated to last from April through July (depending on the campaign and business need - this could end earlier or later depending on when the Board of Directors meeting adjourns). If they perform well, they would be asked to return for the Fall project and for future projects, as needed. This campaign is supporting a high-profile customer, and they need a high level of communication skills. Majority of openings are PM Shift and the hours are: Mon-Thurs 6 PM 11 PM EST (one 15-minute break) and Saturday 12 PM 6 PM EST (30-minute unpaid lunch) = hours without OT.
