About the Opportunity :
Meridian Contracting is a leader in civil construction across the Southwest, known for delivering complex infrastructure projects in earthwork, flood control, road construction, utilities, and mining support. We are seeking an experienced Heavy Civil Estimator to support our growing operations in Albuquerque, NM . This role is critical in helping us compete for and deliver high-value projects—combining technical cost analysis with deep field knowledge and collaboration.
Successful Team Members in This Role Will…
Analyze project plans, specs, and proposals to prepare detailed and competitive cost estimatesDevelop and submit complete bids for civil infrastructure projects (earthwork, utilities, roadways, drainage, etc.)Solicit quotes and negotiate pricing from subcontractors and suppliersCollaborate with Project Managers and Engineers to align estimates with production goals and field conditionsIdentify risks and opportunities during pre-construction reviewTrack historical cost data and maintain cost libraries for continuous accuracyParticipate in pre-bid meetings, client calls, and scope reviewsEnsure compliance with industry codes, local regulations, and safety standardsSupport value engineering efforts and assist with project handoffs to the operations teamA Day in the Life of a Heavy Civil Estimator :
Review and interpret RFQs, bid documents, and construction drawingsPerform takeoffs using estimating software and historical cost dataCoordinate with vendors and subcontractors to gather updated pricingPrepare bid packages, schedules of values, and internal handoff sheetsAttend bid strategy meetings and provide insight on competitivenessSubmit proposals and follow up with clients as neededSupport project start-up by briefing operations on scope, resources, and budgetsMeasurements of Success :
Competitive, accurate estimates that win profitable workTimely completion and submission of bid packagesHigh client confidence in estimate quality and communicationWell-documented cost data and takeoff accuracyBachelor's degree in construction management, Civil Engineering, or related field (preferred)Minimum 5 years of experience in civil estimating for infrastructure projectsDeep knowledge of construction methods, materials, and productivity ratesProficiency in tools such as HCSS, Bluebeam, PlanSwift, or HeavyBidStrong math, organization, and documentation skillsEffective communicator with clients, suppliers, and internal teamsFamiliarity with local agency standards and public works bidding processesBased in or willing to relocate to Albuquerque, NMMonday – Friday : 7 AM – 5 PM
