Secoma Operator, Roof Bolter – SUFCO Mine

OVERALL JOB PURPOSE : Responsible for operating specialized bolting equipment to install critical roof and rib support systems in an underground coal mining environment. This role is essential to maintaining structural integrity within the mine and ensuring the safety of all underground personnel. The position requires strict adherence to the mine's approved Roof Control Plan, federal and state regulations, and company safety standards. The Roof Bolter works as part of a production team to support efficient, safe, and continuous mining operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE :

• Operate Secoma roof bolting equipment to drill and install roof bolts, plates, and mesh in accordance with prescribed patterns and safety standards.
• Perform pre-operational and operational inspections on bolting equipment, reporting any mechanical issues or defects.
• Install roof supports as specified by the approved Roof Control Plan and supervisor direction.
• Maintain proper documentation of support installations and assist in preparing reports for MSHA and internal compliance audits.
• Conduct visual inspections of roof and rib conditions and report any hazards or unsafe conditions immediately.
• Assist with scaling of loose material, setting supplemental supports, and other ground control tasks as required.
• Maintain clean and organized work areas to support safe and efficient operations.
• Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and lockout / tagout procedures.
• Participate in regular safety meetings and training programs.
• Communicate clearly with other crew members, supervisors, and maintenance personnel to coordinate production and ensure continuous safe operations.
