Description
To perform preventive maintenance and repairs on designated passenger and freight elevators,
escalators, dumbwaiters and moving sidewalks according to schedule and in accordance with industry
safety practices. To troubleshoot defective equipment, make repairs and respond promptly to service and
call back requests. To perform all duties in accordance with established protocols and industry safety
standards. To gather data and submit written reports. To guide, train and oversee the work of the
elevator mechanic assistants. To assist other team members with daily work and special projects. To use
assigned communication device to read and respond to texts, emails and service requests in a timely
manner. May be asked to complete the NAEC CETTM training program based on department need.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS TO INCLUDE :
- Performs routine cleaning on designated elevators and equipment rooms. Performs duties such as blowing out generators, motors, selectors and controllers, wiping down all above equipment; cleaning hoistway doors, tracks, sills, elevator cars, and other related equipment. Paints elevator machine rooms, equipment, car tops and pit as needed. Maintains a clean and organized worksite. Maintains tools, equipment and inventory.
- Completes scheduled and detailed maintenance inspection of assigned elevators. Makes necessary adjustments, parts replacement, and repairs to elevators as necessary. Performs major repairs and required safety tests according to code.
- Performs scheduled maintenance and minor repair to equipment room electrical systems which includes replacing defective lights checking, cleaning and replacing contacts in elevator controller and selector relays; coils, fuses; motors; generator brushes; defective wiring; terminals; resistors, diodes and other components on panels.
- Performs scheduled and minor repairs to elevators and hoistway electrical systems which includes but is not limited to replacing defective lights; push buttons; covers; switches; electric eyes; door operator motors; wiring; gongs / bells; indicator sockets covers; safety edge and electric eye cords.
- Performs scheduled maintenance and minor repairs to elevator and hoistway mechanical systems, which includes but is not limited to replacing door rollers and gibs; release rollers and release roller assemblies; defective belts and cables under supervision; adjusting doors; repairing / replacing door closure assemblies; adjusting leveling apparatus and inspecting all cables.
- Responds to all calls and breakdown of assigned elevators in a prompt and timely manner, with maximum response time of one hour, and all emergency calls upon any elevator.
- Guides, trains, and oversees the work of the Elevator Mechanic Assistant(s). Assists other department personnel in completion of more extensive repairs within all areas.
- Gathers data and submits written reports.
- Perform all duties in accordance with established protocols and industry safety standards.
- Actively participates in ongoing department training. Pursues specialized training and certifications to stay abreast of industry changes and to advance expertise. Uses assigned communication device to read and responds to texts, emails and service requests in a timely manner. Interacts with customers, visitors, students, staff and others in a friendly, respectful, helpful and professional manner.

Work Schedule : Monday - Friday, 7 : 00 a.m. - 4 : 00p.m. (subject to change to meet the needs of the University).
