About The Position

Job Title : Registered Nurse

Profession : Registered Nurse - Pediatric Psych

Shift : 7P-7A

Hours per Shift : 12

Experience : Minimum of 1 year of Behavioral Health nursing required. Pediatric behavioral health experience preferred. First-time travelers accepted.

License : State License required.

Certifications : BLS required. MOAB certification obtained on site during orientation.

Must-Have :

• De-escalation experience
• Experience with physical restraints
• Comfortable running groups
• Strong documentation skills

Description :

An immediate start is needed.

The facility is a free-standing acute inpatient facility with a contracted emergency room nearby.

All patients come from an emergency department and are medically cleared.

It is not typical for patients to have lines, drains, tubes, etc.

Both involuntary and voluntary admissions are present.

Patient ages include pediatric patients from 5 to 18 years old and adults over 18 including geriatric patients.

Common pediatric diagnoses include eating disorders, depression, suicidal ideation, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, and gender dysphoria.

Common adult diagnoses include schizophrenia, major depressive disorder, and bipolar disorder, with the additional consideration of eating disorders, suicidal ideation, and anxiety.

There are no forensic patients or inmates in this facility.

Seclusion rooms are used when necessary.

Occasional cases of substance use disorder or detoxing patients will be encountered, but these patients must be medically cleared first.

Traditional medical and psychiatric care will be provided, along with specialized therapies such as pet therapy, group sessions, and community gardens.

Patient ratios for registered nurses during day shifts are 1 : 5-6 and during night shifts are 1 : 13, with resource support available.

Nurse supervisors are available on evenings and weekends, while a nurse manager is present during the day.

There will be charge nurses who might also have patient assignments.

Psych techs will also be present to provide support.

Charting is conducted using the Cerner system.

Floating between units may occur.

Weekend rotation is every other weekend, including Saturday and Sunday.

Holiday work is expected as part of the rotation.

Approval for time off is available for up to 7 days, with conditions for scheduling shifts within the week.

Scrubs should be of a solid color and must be professional.
