VMWare Environment Specialist / Senior System Administrator (Hybrid Contract - NC FAST) Job ID : 778063 Client : State of North Carolina - NC Department of Health and Human Services (NC FAST) Location : Raleigh, NC (Hybrid / Onsite as required) Employment Type : 12+ Month Contract Pay Rate : $50 / Hour - $55 / Hour The Opportunity : Support NC FAST’s Mission-Critical Applications We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated System Administrator with deep, hands-on expertise across VMWare, Windows, and Red Hat Linux platforms. This is a crucial contract role supporting the NC Department of Health and Human Services (NC DHHS), where you will be instrumental in maintaining the stability and security of the mission-critical NC FAST Application Development Environment. This position requires a technical expert to provide daily operational support, execute strategic system enhancements, and ensure 24 / 7 reliability for the state’s vital services. Primary Responsibilities (What You'll Do) As the key Linux / Windows Administrator and VMWare Environment Specialist, you will be responsible for the full infrastructure lifecycle : Virtualization & OS Administration Virtual Infrastructure Management : Maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot our VMware-based environments, specifically managing VMware VCenter 6.7 or later to ensure virtual server infrastructure health. OS Support : Provide expert, hands-on administration and systems support for both Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) on x86 and Windows servers. System Maintenance : Install, maintain, and upgrade internal computer software systems used for application design and development. Automation : Utilize your strong shell scripting abilities (Bash, PowerShell) to implement process efficiencies, create controls, and standardize procedures. Monitoring, Security, and Hardware Monitoring & Compliance : Use Nagios for performance monitoring and collaborate closely with Security and Audit teams to enforce security standards and compliance protocols. Hardware Support : Be available to travel to our Raleigh and Charlotte data centers as needed to troubleshoot and resolve hardware issues on UCS blade servers. Database & Storage : Manage and maintain SQL Servers and advanced storage solutions, including Pure Storage and VSAN. Operational Commitment Work as a collaborative team member in a time-critical, fast-paced environment. Provide 24 / 7 on-call support every other week, with occasional weekend / holiday work required to support the continuity of critical state services. Basic Qualifications (Must-Haves) 8+ years of professional experience as a System Administrator. Extensive experience managing VMware VCenter 6.7 or later. Proven hands-on support and OS administration experience in a mixed UNIX / Linux and Windows environment. Demonstrated experience managing and maintaining Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Windows servers. Familiarity with network monitoring tools, specifically Nagios. Strong analytical, methodical approach to problem-solving. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. Willingness to travel to data centers in Raleigh and Charlotte for hardware support. Preferred Skills (A Plus) Relevant Linux or Windows Server Certifications. Direct experience managing UCS blade servers. Experience administering SQL servers and advanced storage solutions (Pure Storage / VSAN). Compensation & Logistics Work Arrangement : This is a HYBRID position. The candidate must be based in Raleigh, NC, and be available for required onsite work and necessary travel to the Charlotte data center. This is not a remote position.
