About this Position

The construction primary function of this position is to operate heavy equipment for the purposes of bridge maintenance and development. This position is located in District 62, Unit 722 of the Department of Transportation and reports directly to the Highway Foreman 2. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties with minimal supervision and able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. Education classes will and participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs and attend all continuing deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks. While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.

Preference may be given to applicants that have experience in bridge maintenance and CDL license.

Appointment Type : This position may be filled as a Probationary Appointment requiring 12-24 months on probation.

Career Progression : As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a Mobile Equipment Operator 1, Mobile Equipment Operator 2, or Mobile Equipment Operator 1-Heavy depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s).

Work Schedule : The work schedule for this position is, 10-hour days, 4 days a week, off Monday or Friday.

Compensation : See below for starting hourly rate for each level, and the Premium Pay amount for the Mobile Equipment Operator 1, 2 and Heavy 1 :

MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 1 Valid Louisiana driver's license will be required upon appointment.

Starting salary for MEO-1 is $16.06 / hour with an additional $1.00 / hour for all hours worked.

Additionally, a 10% base pay increase will be granted upon attainment of permanent status.

MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 2 - Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) will be required upon appointment.

Starting salary for MEO-2 is $17.18 / hour with an additional $1.00 for all hours worked.

Additionally, a 10% base pay increase will be granted upon attainment of permanent status.

MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 1 / HEAVY - Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) will be required upon appointment.

Starting salary for MEO 1-HEAVY is $21.05 / hour.
