About the Opportunity
We are opening a new ASAM Level 3.7 and 3.5 residential treatment center in Marshall, Missouri, providing 24-hour medically monitored and clinically managed care for adults recovering from substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders. The Nurse Practitioner (NP) will play a central role in the medical oversight of the program, working collaboratively with the Medical Director, Director of Nursing, and Clinical Team to provide comprehensive, trauma-informed, and evidence-based care to individuals in recovery. This position offers a unique opportunity to help establish the medical foundation of a growing residential treatment program focused on integrated, patient-centered healing.
Position Overview
The Nurse Practitioner provides medical assessment, treatment, and oversight to residents within ASAM 3.7 (medically monitored) and ASAM 3.5 (clinically managed) levels of care. Under the supervision of the Medical Director, the NP conducts medical and psychiatric evaluations, prescribes and monitors medications, supports withdrawal management, and ensures the delivery of safe, effective medical care consistent with Missouri Department of Mental Health (DMH) and ASAM requirements. This position requires strong clinical acumen, collaborative communication, and a compassionate, trauma-informed approach to client care.
Key Responsibilities
- Medical Assessment & Treatment :
- Conduct comprehensive medical and psychiatric evaluations upon admission and throughout treatment.
- Develop and implement individualized medical care plans in alignment with ASAM 3.7 / 3.5 clinical standards.
- Manage acute and chronic health conditions, withdrawal symptoms, and co-occurring psychiatric disorders.
- Prescribe and monitor medications in accordance with state and federal regulations, including MAT (Medication-Assisted Treatment) when appropriate.
- Review and interpret laboratory, diagnostic, and toxicology results, coordinating follow-up or referral as needed.
- Provide education and counseling to clients regarding medications, health management, and preventive care.
- Support nursing staff in the implementation of medical protocols and ensure clinical readiness for emergencies.
- Collaboration & Clinical Oversight :
- Collaborate closely with the Medical Director, Director of Nursing, and Clinical Supervisor to ensure integrated, high-quality care.
- Participate in treatment team meetings to review client progress, update medical plans, and support interdisciplinary coordination.
- Communicate effectively with external healthcare providers, hospitals, and pharmacies to ensure continuity of care.
- Provide medical guidance and training to nursing and clinical staff regarding withdrawal management, infection control, and medication safety.
- Participate in the on-call rotation for medical consultation as needed for 24-hour coverage.
- Compliance & Documentation :
- Maintain accurate, timely, and thorough documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Ensure compliance with DMH, ASAM, HIPAA, and DEA standards.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, audits, and chart reviews to ensure regulatory readiness.
- Support preparation for licensing, certification, and accreditation surveys.
- Client Education & Support :
- Provide education to clients and families on health literacy, medication adherence, and relapse prevention.
- Support clients in understanding their treatment goals, chronic health management, and post-discharge care plans.
- Model trauma-informed, culturally competent, and recovery-oriented practices in all client interactions.
- Safety & Risk Management :
- Oversee infection control, universal precautions, and medical emergency protocols.
- Respond promptly to medical incidents or client crises in accordance with policy.
- Maintain current licensure, DEA registration, and continuing education in accordance with state and federal requirements.
Qualifications
Active Nurse Practitioner (NP) license in the State of Missouri (in good standing).Master’s or Doctorate in Nursing from an accredited institution.DEA registration for prescribing controlled substances.Minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience, preferably in behavioral health, detoxification, or integrated care settings.Strong working knowledge of ASAM 3.5 and 3.7 criteria, withdrawal management, and co-occurring disorder treatment.Excellent assessment, diagnostic, and treatment planning skills.Compassionate, patient-centered approach with strong communication and team collaboration skills.Must pass background check and drug screening per DMH requirements.Preferred Experience
Experience in residential, detox, or inpatient behavioral health settings.Knowledge of MAT protocols (e.g., buprenorphine, naltrexone).Familiarity with trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing, and recovery-oriented systems.Experience supervising or collaborating with nursing and allied health professionals.Schedule
Full-time or part-time position available. Flexible hours with potential on-call rotation for 24-hour clinical coverage.
