DevOps Engineer

Be part of the transformation of Ford Motor Company's infrastructure solutions to meet challenges of the next generation applications supporting internal business, mobile applications, and autonomous vehicle application hosting requirements.

This DevOps / Site Reliability Platform Engineer (Kubevirt / Kubernetes) position will design and operate infrastructure such as RedHat OpenShift and RedHat OpenShift Virtualization supporting various application flavors alongside a geographically distributed team. Emphasis will be on both virtualization / container strategies and ecosystem (Kubernetes / Kubevirt) supporting Ford's rapidly increasing data and compute requirements. These environments will primarily be in our on-premises datacenters. This role will have opportunity to drive and shape new solutions and feature capability that improve our Kubevirt / Kubernetes platform’s developer experience (reducing toil and complexity).

Upgrade and maintain OpenShift Virtualization Specific Operators

Manage OpenShift Virtualization Namespaces / Permissions

Develop automation related to Provisioning, Day2, Decommissioning and Migration

Collaborate with team members regarding code standards and assignments where needed.

Participate in code reviews and technical designs.

Technical Skills Must Have :

Education : Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related technical field.

(3+ years) Strong Linux knowledge on multiple platforms (RHEL, Ubuntu, SUSE).

(1+ years) Experience in use of Kubevirt and Kubernetes.

(1+ years) Experience in use of virtualization and container technologies.

(1+ years) In-depth use of Cloud-based PaaS and IaaS. GCP and Azure experience preferred.

(2+ years) Experience with GIT and CI / CD pipelines using Tekton, Argo, GitHub Actions, and / or Jenkins.

(1+ years) Experience with and Prometheus / Garfana

Demonstrable proficiency in Kustomize / Helm

Demonstrable proficiency in at least one programming or scripting language. Go, python, and / or Bourne Shell preferred.

Demonstrated knowledge of RESTFUL API concepts and JSON formats.

Working knowledge of application development architectures, and web deployment methodologies.

This position requires a wide breadth of skills and experience in-order to develop new application hosting platforms and strategies.

Technical Skills Nice to Have :

• Experience with IT Automation products such as Terraform, Ansible, Chef, etc.
• Experience with VMWare ESX and vCenter.
• Experience with network load balancers (SLB, GSLB).

_ Please note : This is a hybrid role, you will be expected to relocate if you are not within commutable distance of less than 50 miles of the headquarters, and responsible to be on site at minimum 1-2 days per week_
