Girls on the Run Palm Beach is seeking Board Members to drive our mission forward to help girls in our community.
We need to raise scholarship funding for 12 schools, which combined have a waiting list of 300 deserving girls in-need who would like to participate in Girls on the Run, but whose families are struggling financially.
The primary responsibilities would be to help us grow our SoleMates program, which requires strategic outreach. If you like to go into the community and meet people where they are (e.g. local run clubs, gyms, stores, etc.) and / or know people who are leading a heathy lifestyle or who are just getting into fitness and need some motivation (or you are one of these people), we need you to help these individuals become a SoleMate, who raises funds for Girls on the Run.
SoleMates are individuals who set a goal (like running a 5K or marathon, or walking one mile every day for a month, or increasing their weightlifting capability by 20 pounds, etc.) and then fundraise among their friends and family for Girls on the Run as they train to reach their goal. This type of fundraising is called "peer-to-peer fundraising" or P2P. You may have participated in a walk-a-thon or something similar during which you were asked to ask your friends to donate a certain amount per mile or a flat amount. That's what you'd be asking a SoleMate to do.
We're also seeking people to do outreach to companies for partnerships (sponsorships) for our programs. We have a packet all ready for your use.
Outreach needs planning, preparation and feet-on-the-street. And we need help!
Our Board Members also talk to everyone they know about Girls on the Run to help us get the word out and volunteer during our events, especially our big 5K event, which brings together GOTR girls and their families in one place for a morning run and fun!
Other responsibilities include attending scheduled Board Meetings once per month, as well as other activities as the Board determines.
WHAT OUR ORGANIZATION DOES : Girls on the Run Palm Beach encourages girls of all abilities to recognize their individual strengths and celebrate connections with others. Our tested curricula blend physical fitness activity with skill development that enables girls to adapt to whatever comes their way. Different versions of the curriculum ensure that no matter how many times girls participate, there is always something new to explore and learn. In today’s unpredictable world, the strategies girls learn at Girls on Run are more important than ever.
