The work you will do :
Senior Equipment Operator District Five / Leesburg Maintenance. This position will be responsible for maintaining our state roadway systems. Through cooperation, coordination, and collaboration among the OneFDOT team, you will be contributing to a strong and empowering culture of TRREC : Trust, Relationships, Respect, Empowerment, and Communication.
Your specific responsibilities :
- Operate vehicles and a variety of large equipment to include but not limited to; road graders, sewer cleaner, and hydraulic excavators in bridge and roadway maintenance.
- Perform minor maintenance and servicing work in connection with any type of equipment operated and assist in the repairs of this equipment; check and add fluids, checks / adjusts brakes, maintains proper air pressure in all tires, etc.
- Cleans and washes equipment.
- Coordinates, participates, and directs the maintenance activity of the assigned crew.
- Assists in selecting materials, supplies, equipment, inspecting, planning workloads, work flows, deadlines, work objectives, and time utilization with employees.
- Maintains records of operation.
- Prepares and maintains daily paperwork such as crew activity reports and daily vehicle check lists.
- Performs independent manual labor incidental to job assignments.
- Performs Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic).
- Performs rough carpentry, masonry, painting and / or assists in the assembly and erection of highway signs.
- Trains crew members in the operation of heavy equipment and of basic Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic).
- Assists with crew activity reports as needed.
The successful candidate will have the following required knowledge, skills, and abilities :
Knowledge of mathematical calculations, standard safety rules and procedures, and the procedures, techniques, and use of equipment in the maintenance and repair of highways, bridges and / or other highway structures.Skilled in operating a variety of hand and power tools, operating and performing minor maintenance on large equipment and vehicles, completing job-related reports and forms, and communicating both verbally and in writing, including following oral / written instructions.Ability to operate a variety of heavy equipment, train others; read and understand job-related materials, develop and maintain effective working relationships with others, lift, carry, and handle up to 50 pounds, stoop, climb, squat, push, pull, crawl or bend on a frequent basis, work outdoors in various weather conditions, on various terrains and at various heights or in high volume traffic, and stand for an extended period of time.Other job-related requirements :
Due to the nature of this position, the incumbent must respond to emergencies and be "On-Call" (24-hour duty) when necessary.A Class "B" CDL is required at time of hire. Obtain a CDL Class "A" Instructional Permit within 60 days of appointment to the position and obtain a CDL Class "A" license within 10 months of appointment to the position.Must obtain certification in Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic) - Intermediate Level within one year and maintain it.This position requires a valid Class B driver's license with an acceptable driving record in accordance with the Department's Driver's Record Requirements Policy.Minimum qualifications :
