Electrical Engineer - Senior Level (Hybrid)

The role - what you'll do

Barr is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our team in our Duluth, MN, Minneapolis, MN or Salt Lake City, UT locations. In this hybrid role, you will support the Engineering & Design business unit, working with multidisciplinary project teams providing electrical engineering and related technical expertise. Work will include integrating process, mechanical, and control requirements into comprehensive electrical systems. Projects will focus on design and analysis including the design of power and controls systems from the ground up. Specific tasks may involve preparing plans and specifications, writing reports, and developing cost estimations. The work will be related to industrial processing facilities, power plants, mining facilities, and municipal water and wastewater facilities.

A successful person in this role will have strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. They must possess a flexible working style and be willing to occasionally modify their schedule to meet deadlines and client needs. They must be able to work cooperatively in a project team environment that encourages self-initiative and demonstrate effective project organization and management skills.

Your impact - key responsibilities

Technical knowledge : managing projects, coaching and mentoring less-experienced staff, and providing technical leadership and team management to meet clients' needs. This person will have the opportunity to participate in business development activities.

Interpersonal savvy : effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and clients to align technical work with project objectives while fostering strong, productive working relationships.

About the opportunity

Compensation : The anticipated base salary range for this position is $115,000 - $140,000 / year. Compensation will vary based upon relevant experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus based on team and individual performance. This position is classified as exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

Hybrid : A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position can be based out of Barr's Duluth, MN, Minneapolis, MN or Salt Lake City, UT office.

Travel expectation : Up to 10-15 percent domestic fieldwork.

Work environment : Ability to work in locations that feature the rough terrain typical of construction sites or require lifting or moving field testing equipment. Safety training will be provided prior to being given work assignments on these sites. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients. Candidates must be able to perform job duties with or without reasonable accommodation.

About you - required core competencies

Education : Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with academic coursework focused on power or control systems

Experience : At least 10 years of related experience working in a design capacity on projects directly related to the job responsibilities described above at a consulting engineering or industrial organization

Licenses / certifications : Professional Engineer (PE) certification or ability to obtain in one year

Software : Computer skills and familiarity with AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word

Driver's license : Possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record

Knowledge of and experience with industrial manufacturing processes such as power plants, petroleum refining, mining and / or minerals processing, or chemical production facilities

Working knowledge of codes, standards, laws, and regulations applicable to the project assignments described above

Ability and willingness to work cooperatively with team members in a high-energy environment that encourages self-initiative

A flexible working style and willingness to modify personal schedule as required to meet deadlines and / or client needs

Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship by Barr, now or in the future

Helpful additional experience (not required)

At least 15 years of related experience working in a design capacity on projects directly related to the job responsibilities described above at a consulting engineering or industrial organization

Demonstrated project organization and management skills

Client-relationship and business-development skills

Experience with AutoCAD

Training in cathodic protection

Experience with SKM Power Tools or E-Tap software for coordination and arc flash studies

Experience with Rockwell Automation / Allen Bradley PLC and HMI programming software

Experience with start-up / commissioning of industrial projects
