OVERVIEW
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior BI Analyst with deep hands-on expertise in data modeling, SQL, Power Query, and DAX to support Corporate Finance initiatives. This role requires someone who can independently design, build, and optimize Power BI data models and dashboards— not someone who has only partnered with or overseen data modeling work.
The successful candidate will collaborate closely with cross-functional partners including Business Intelligence, Data Science, Finance, Treasury, and Operations to translate business needs into scalable analytical solutions, define KPIs, and drive data-informed decision‑making.
This role is ideal for a proactive, detail‑oriented data professional who thrives in structured environments, enjoys bridging technical and business requirements, and can independently lead analytics initiatives from concept to delivery.
Location : Chicago, IL (Hybrid – 2–3 days in office)
Contract Length : 6 Months (Extension Possible)
Hours : 9 AM–5 PM CST
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Elicit, document, and validate data and analytics requirements from Finance, Operations, Treasury, and other stakeholders.
- Translate business objectives into actionable analytical solutions, metrics, and data models.
- Design, develop, and maintain end‑to‑end data models , including schema design, relationships, measures, and calculated columns using Power Query (M) and DAX .
- Build, optimize, and document Power BI dashboards , SQL queries, and analytical workflows.
- Conduct data preparation, cleansing, refinement, and transformation for high‑quality reporting.
- Define new KPIs and lead analysis to provide strategic insights and recommendations to business leaders.
- Present analytical findings in ad‑hoc and routine business reviews to Senior Leadership.
- Conduct performance tuning on Power BI datasets, reports, and underlying SQL queries to ensure reliability and scalability.
- Collaborate with Data and Software Engineers to interpret ETL pipelines, identify upstream changes, and ensure data accuracy.
- Partner with Data Scientists to design new metrics and analytical frameworks.
- Lead analytics projects end‑to‑end, managing requirements, timelines, and stakeholder alignment.
- Identify data gaps and propose enhancements to support improved decision‑making and business growth.
- Ensure alignment with enterprise data governance, quality, and security standards.
QUALIFICATIONS
5+ years of progressive experience in business intelligence, data modeling, or analytics , preferably supporting Finance or Corporate functions.Hands‑on expertise :
Building end‑to‑end Power BI data modelsPower Query ( M )DAX (measures, calculated columns, time intelligence)SQL (advanced querying, joins, CTEs, aggregations)Strong proficiency in Excel and experience building analytical dashboards.Ability to read and interpret ETL pipelines and collaborate effectively with Data Engineers and Software Engineering teams.Experience defining and designing KPIs, metrics, and performance scorecards.Strong understanding of BI development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, modeling, visualization, and stakeholder presentation.Demonstrated ability to influence cross‑functional stakeholders without formal authority.Excellent documentation, analytical, and communication skills—capable of presenting to senior leaders.Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced, structured environment with minimal supervision.PREFERRED
Experience supporting Finance, Treasury, or Corporate functions.Familiarity with enterprise data governance and quality frameworks.Exposure to data science collaboration and metric design.Power BI or analytics‑related certifications are an asset.EDUCATION
Post‑secondary degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Finance, Computer Science) or related field.
