Job description

The Foundation

We are the largest nonprofit fighting poverty, disease, and inequity around the world. Founded on a simple premise : people everywhere, regardless of identity or circumstances, should have the chance to live healthy, productive lives. We believe our employees should reflect the rich diversity of the global populations we aim to serve. We provide an exceptional benefits package to employees and their families which include comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage with no premiums, generous paid time off, paid family leave, foundation-paid retirement contribution, regional holidays, and opportunities to engage in several employee communities. As a workplace, we’re committed to creating an environment for you to thrive both personally and professionally.

The Team

The People team is a strategic partner in shaping a thriving, inclusive, and high-performing organization. We steward the employee experience across the full talent lifecycle—from attracting and developing exceptional talent to strengthening culture, supporting well-being as well as impact, and aligning people strategies with our mission.

The Office of the Chief People Officer (OCPO) houses key enterprise functions—Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI), Partnerships for Impact (P4I), and Strategy, Planning & Management (SPM)—that collectively enable organizational effectiveness, operational excellence, and the integration of people-centered strategies across the foundation.

Application Deadline : Tuesday, November 11, 2025

Your Role

As a Strategy Officer in the Office of the Chief People Officer, you will play a critical role in advancing the team’s strategic priorities and ensuring the division operates with clarity, alignment, and impact.

Reporting to the Deputy Director, Strategy, Planning and Management (DDSPM) and working in close partnership with the Director SPM / Chief of Staff (DSPM / CoS), you will bridge strategy incubation and leadership advising to ensure the Chief People Officer’s (CPO) time, engagements, and voice are aligned to enterprise priorities and drive meaningful impact.

This role requires sound judgment, strong analytical and communications skills, and the capability to lead all aspects of complex, cross-functional workstreams with discretion. You will manage and support strategy projects, lead the development of key deliverables for the CPO, and ensure travel and communications are strategically connected to the division’s rhythm of business.

What You’ll Do

Strategy Development and Incubation

  • Partner with the People Team’s leadership and Strategy, Planning & Management (SPM) colleagues, as well as teams across the division, to advance priorities and ensure strategic alignment and coherence.
  • Lead or contribute to the design, scoping, and execution of high-priority strategy projects — from defining strategic questions and analytical approaches to generating insights that inform decisions and drive action.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the function and the foundation to develop and refine strategic frameworks, approaches, and tools that strengthen planning, execution, and learning.
  • Support the development of high-impact materials and insights to inform the CPO’s participation in executive leadership forums, board engagements and action groups, ensuring the People perspective is represented strategically, clearly, and with compelling evidence.
  • Translate strategic priorities into actionable plans and milestones, track progress against goals, and collaborate with the DDSPM, CoS, and SPM colleagues.
  • Conduct and synthesize quantitative and qualitative analyses to clarify complex issues, surface trends, and find opportunities for the People Team to enhance its impact.
  • Facilitate inclusive collaboration and alignment processes with stakeholders across divisions, encouraging shared understanding, momentum, and accountability around strategic initiatives.

Strategic Communications and Deliverables

  • Build and maintain a strategic communications plan for the People Division that aligns with key organizational priorities and amplifies the CPO’s voice across the enterprise.
  • Lead the development of clear, compelling materials that reflect the CPO’s priorities and perspectives, including presentations, talking points, written communications, and divisional updates.
  • Partner with the DDSPM, CoS, and CPO’s Executive Assistant (EA) to design and maintain workback plans and deliverables that integrate seamlessly with the division’s Rhythm of Business (ROB).
  • Support the creation of high-quality deliverables for the CPO, including Executive Leadership Team materials, Board updates, divisional reports, and other enterprise-wide communications.
  • Coordinate internal and cross-divisional communications related to the People Team’s strategic priorities and change initiatives.
  • Leadership Engagement and Travel Management

  • In collaboration with EA and CoS, manage the CPO’s annual travel portfolio, including trip planning, strategic framing, briefing materials, and post-trip reporting.
  • Ensure all CPO engagements (internal and external) are intentional, aligned with foundation priorities, and employed for maximum strategic impact.
  • Develop detailed workback plans to prepare for key engagements and synchronize trip planning and communications with the division’s overall ROB.
  • Exercise the highest level of discretion and judgment in handling sensitive information, representing leadership perspectives, and handling confidential materials.
  • Operational Excellence and Division Effectiveness

  • Support the continuous improvement of systems and processes that enhance coordination, transparency, and performance.
  • Provide project management and analytical support for cross-divisional initiatives, identifying dependencies, risks, and opportunities for improved collaboration and efficiency.
  • Contribute to strengthening the division’s rhythm of business, knowledge management, and cross-team alignment processes.
  • Your Experience

We are seeking a professional who thrives at the intersection of strategy, execution, and leadership advising. You bring analytical rigor, operational excellence, and the ability to communicate with clarity and discretion in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment. Additionally, we seek :

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in strategy, management consulting, organizational development, or a related field.
  • Proven ability to manage complex, cross-functional projects and coordinate deliverables for senior executives.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and structured problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; ability to translate complex ideas into clear, compelling narratives.
  • Capable of handling confidential information with discretion and sound judgment.
  • Strong organizational skills, adept at balancing multiple priorities, developing workback plans, and aligning execution with enterprise rhythms.
  • Demonstrated ability to build trust and collaboration across differences to strengthen collective impact.
  • Experience in global or matrixed organizations preferred.
  • Advanced degree in business, public policy, organizational psychology, or a related field preferred, with equivalent experience considered.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% domestically and internationally.
  • Core Competencies

  • Judgment and Discretion : Trusted to navigate confidential and politically sensitive matters with care.
  • Inclusivity : Models curiosity, empathy, and respect; contributes to an inclusive environment where people feel valued and heard; and seeks diverse perspectives to inform better decisions.
