Naval Tug Deckhand
Assist in the operation, maintenance, and repair of Naval tugs and crafts assigned to the Navy Region Northwest, Port Operations.
Perform light rigging when required. Operate deck cranes, winches, capstans, and fire equipment.
Be responsible for the proper handling of towing lines, and safe operation of deck equipment.
Ensure lines are properly tied to docks or floating plant which tug is tending.
Function as a line handler for arrival and departure of vessels.
Relieve the Captain in the pilot house during certain operations.
Navigate and maneuver tugs alongside certain objects including barges and docks.
Perform maintenance of vessel mechanical systems, deck machinery, and painting preservation.
Perform daily checks of oil boom, including cleaning and repairs.
Must be a US Citizen.
Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

This is a bargaining unit position.
You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and / or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators, and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g., fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
You will be required to perform occasional sea duty.
The position often requires irregular hours.

My experience includes performing tasks involved in the maintenance, general upkeep, and deck operations a small craft which may include assisting in docking and undocking; line and cable handling; operating deck cranes, winches capstans, and firefighting equipment; maintaining deck machinery and equipment, and chipping / sanding and painting of vessel. I am considered an expert and work with a high degree of independence. I work on my own initiative under general supervision subject to occasional inspection.
