Job description
WHO WE ARE

Amae Health is a Series B, venture-backed Public Benefit Corporation that delivers specialty outpatient care for people with severe mental illness. We build and operate high-acuity, in-person clinics nationally.

Our model integrates psychiatry, therapy, primary care, dietitians, and community support under one roof. It has proven itself as the most effective in the country, which is why we collaborate with leading health systems including NewYork-Presbyterian, Cedars-Sinai, Mass General Brigham, Novant Health, and CommonSpirit to extend our care to where it's needed most.

But what makes us fundamentally different is that we are also building the science and technology layer that this field has never had. We are developing proprietary clinical protocols, designing novel measurement science, and engineering an AI data science platform purpose-built for the complexity of severe mental illness. Every patient interaction generates data that feeds back into our protocols, our technology, and our understanding of what actually works.

We reduce hospitalizations. We improve stability. We keep people alive and in their communities. We help our members gain purpose and meaning.

We're Hiring!

We are hiring a Mental Health Therapist to join us onsite in our Los Angeles clinic as part of an interdisciplinary team committed to providing personalized, compassionate and high-quality SMI care.

The Opportunity:

As a Mental Health Therapist at Amae you will play an integral role in our collective mission to become the center of excellence for SMI care. In alignment with Amae's holistic wrap-around care model, you will support a panel of our complex members through individual and group therapy sessions, while also providing psychoeducation and support to patients' families. Working within a collaborative and shared decision making model, you will have the opportunity to partner with clinical staff, peer specialists, primary care providers and community partners. A patient advocate, you will help members navigate the health and social services systems in Los Angeles, connecting patients to resources and the community. Rooted in trust and rapport, you will initiate, establish and maintain relationships not only with patients, but also with families, as you care for members of Amae Health.

About You:

A clinician who thrives at the intersection of clinical best practice, innovative care models and the latest technology, caring for complex patients is your north star. You take a person-centered approach to your work, deliver evidence-based interventions and practice measurement-based care. If you are excited to work side by side with a dedicated, compassionate interdisciplinary team who are building the center of excellence for SMI care, we would love to hear from you!

What You Will Work On:
  • Provide individual and group therapy to a panel of complex SMI patients
  • Provide continuous, regular support as patients navigate recovery, both in person and on occasion, virtually
  • Deliver evidence-based care in a holistic, wrap-around care model
  • Collaborate with patient care teams and with behavioral health providers to ensure an integrated, cohesive approach to care
  • Address medical needs to mitigate negative impacts of various social determinants of health
  • Provide consultation to therapists on the treatment team, which may include licensed therapists as well as trainees, as well as assisting with program development.
What You'll Have:
  • Active Licensed Psychologist in California State, LCSW, LMSW, LMFT or LPC license in the state of California is required. Associate level welcome to apply, onsite supervision available
  • Thrives in a collaborative team environment and establishes positive relationships with other medical professionals
  • Experience and interest in working with adults and at least 1 year of experience working with patients with severe mental illness
  • Experience in evidence-based interventions, including CBT, DBT, or MI.
  • Ability to navigate challenging situations with professionalism.
  • Thorough understanding of confidentiality and appropriate documentation standards
  • Technologically savvy, with the ability to learn and navigate new tools and technologies
  • Highly organized with the ability to work autonomously
  • Possess strong listening skills and excellent verbal communication capabilities
What We Provide:
  • Health Insurance: Comprehensive medical, dental & vision plans
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • 401(k)
  • FSA & HSA savings programs
  • Short & long-term disability
  • Pre-tax commuter assistance program
  • Paid time off
  • Parental Leave - 12 weeks for birth and non birth parent
  • 11 company holidays
  • DEA/License/Certification reimbursement
  • CME budget
  • Unique team based care model designed to encourage true clinical collaboration, in-person with physician grand rounds and daily care team huddles including psychiatrists, Clinic Director, PCP, Therapists, Community Health Workers, Clinic Care Coordinators, Dieticians etc.
Amae Health is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices.

Base salary range for this role is $75,000 to $115,000 per year based on a full-time schedule. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate and it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range. These factors include, but are not limited to, job related knowledge and skill set, supervised hours completed (if an associate) depth of experience, certifications, degrees, licensures, and specific work location.

Why This is Different

If you've worked in a PHP, an IOP, community mental health, or an inpatient unit, you know what the standard clinical experience looks like. Amae was built to be different. For the people we serve and for the clinicians who serve them.

An integrated team, not a referral network. You work daily alongside psychiatrists, therapists, primary care providers, dietitians, and community health workers, all under one roof, all sharing the same patients. Your colleagues are in the hallway, not on the other end of a fax.

Practice at the top of your license. Real clinical depth with a population that demands it. Manageable caseloads. No fifteen-minute med checks. And technology built specifically for this work. Our clinical tools, decision-support systems, and data infrastructure were designed by our engineers and scientists alongside our clinicians. Not repurposed from a primary care EHR.

Learn from the best. We have a formal education partnership with Mass General Brigham. Our clinicians get ongoing training, clinical supervision, and mentorship rooted in the latest evidence for severe mental illness. Connected to academic medicine without the bureaucracy of working inside it.

Shape the science. We are developing precision medicine for SMI, designing novel outcomes frameworks, and conducting frontier research for this population. Your clinical work generates data that feeds into our science, and our science feeds back into your care. This is not a setting where research happens somewhere else.

Clinics designed for the work and the people. Our spaces are intentionally designed, warm, and built to feel unlike a typical mental health clinic. The environment matters for our members, and it matters for the clinicians who spend their days in it.

A career you can sustain. Burnout in this field is a systems problem, not a personal failing. We built a model with the team structure, caseload design, and infrastructure to do this work well over time and ensure you thrive.

What We're Building

As a clinician at Amae, you are not adjacent to this work. You are essential to it.
  • A national care delivery model for the highest-acuity patients in behavioral health.
  • Precision medicine for SMI. Individualized treatment informed by multimodal clinical, behavioral, and social data.
  • A clinical operating system that puts longitudinal data, real-time patient signals, and purpose-built tools into a single decision layer for care teams.
  • Frontier science and measurement: defining and validating the outcomes frameworks that this field has never had. Hospitalizations avoided, days stable, functional improvement, and more.
  • A partnership model with the country's leading health systems that proves coordinated SMI care can work at scale.

Compensation & Benefits

Competitive base salary reflecting role, level, and geography. Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage. Parental leave and programs built around well-being. We'll share specifics during the interview process.

If you want to practice at the top of your license, learn from the best in academic medicine, contribute to research that is defining a new field, and do it all inside a team that was actually built for this work, we'd like to talk.

More About Amae:

'Amae', pronounced 'Ah-mai', is a Japanese concept meaning the need to be in good favor with, and the ability to depend on, the people around oneself. It reflects our core belief that a strong support system is essential to build people up, strengthen their will to carry on and even to thrive in life. This mentality applies across our whole company - from the patients we serve to the team we're building.

WHAT WE VALUE

We center care in all we do. Empathy is not a brand value. It's how we make clinical decisions, build products, and treat each other.

We challenge convention. The existing system is the problem. We question it, we test alternatives, and we move with urgency when something works.

We take the work seriously, not ourselves. High standards and humanity are not in tension. We hold a hard bar for quality while leaving room for humor and levity.

Your job isn't done until the job is done. We close gaps, we follow through, and we don't hide behind titles or org charts.

We win together and fail together. We own outcomes as a team. We learn fast. We don't do blame.
We hustle with humility. Speed matters. So does integrity. We assume best intent and stay grounded in the mission.

Amae Health is an equal opportunity employer and encourages all applicants from every background and life experience to apply.
