Job Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a night-shift Med / Surg position requiring at least 2 years of experience and active ID or compact RN license.
Responsibilities
Work in a 35-bed acute care Med / Surg unit specializing in a variety of surgical and medical patient typesPatient population includes bariatric, urology, colorectal, vascular, gynecological, plastic / breast reconstruction, cystic fibrosis, and other medical / surgical casesNurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1 : 4-5 based on patient acuity12-hour night shifts from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. with every other weekend requiredRequired to float to like Med / Surg units within the health system's local hospitals; travelers are prioritized for floatingUnit uses Epic EMR; experience with Epic is preferredRemote telemetry monitoring present; RNs must be able to read EKG stripsFrequent use of central line care, NG tube management, ostomies, and drain managementRNs are supported by a charge nurse (non-assigned), assistant nurse managers, and CNAs at a 1 : 8-10 ratioTravelers may be assigned as charge nurse if qualified and neededSchedule flexibility is limited; blocked scheduling and special requests are not acceptedOne unit-specific orientation shift follows facility orientation, plus a didactic review day with an educatorNo specific scrub color required, but attire must be clean and professionalPermanent employees must be separated for at least one year before accepting a travel contractHoliday coverage required if neededRequirements
Active ID or compact state RN license at time of considerationCurrent BLS certification requiredMinimum 2 years of recent Med / Surg RN experienceProficiency in central lines, NG tube management, ostomies, drain care, and professional communication requiredExperience with CBIs and foley management preferredAbility to interpret basic cardiac rhythms requiredEpic EMR experience preferredMust reside outside a 50-mile radius from the facilitySubmission requires a driver's license and two professional references (including one supervisor from the past 12 months and one peer or supervisor from the past 3 years with employment dates and rehire eligibility)Benefits
