What to Expect
Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Manufacturing Controls Engineer to join the General Assembly shop at our Semi Manufacturing Factory in Sparks, NV. The Manufacturing Controls Engineer will be experienced in the automation controls field, bringing their exposure to Siemens or other PLC platforms, Fanuc robots, and safety systems. This role requires hands-on involvement on the manufacturing line and emphasizes analytical abilities, organization skills, and attention to detail. As a Manufacturing Controls Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting any lineside troubleshooting, analyzing, and improving current system, and develop and deploy new PLC code to help remove production bottlenecks. International Travel for FAT support is required for the role.
What You'll Do
- Travel internationally to work with equipment vendors to validate and launch new production tooling as part of Factory Acceptance Testing (FATs)
- Diagnose and resolve PLC faults to minimize downtime, improve cycle times, and enhance process efficiency
- Seamlessly install, program, and integrate new equipment, including robotics, sensors, and dispense systems, into existing automated lines
- Configure and program IO devices, servo systems, Fanuc robots, and vision systems to meet process and production needs
- Modify PLC Controls sequence logic, robot sequence and vision programs, and other system controls to enhance safety, reliability, reduce faults, and achieve production goals. HMI software updates to optimize equipment operator experience
- Review and update electrical wiring diagrams, layout drawings for VFDs, Servos, PLC and other controls devices
- Support 24 / 7 Production Operations as needed
What You'll Bring
Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or equivalent experience2+ years with automotive manufacturing experience as a Controls Engineering roleProficiency in PLC programming of equipment sequences using IEC-61131 complaint programming languages and logic troubleshooting (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley) and hands-on experience with Fanuc robot programming. Proficiency in HMI / SCADA industrial systems (SIMATIC WinCC, TIA Portal or Ignition SCADA). Experience with motor drive setup and troubleshooting (SEW EURODrive and Siemens G120, S120 preferred)Experience with electrical design using EPlan (preferred) or AutoCAD Electrical and Schematic troubleshooting. Demonstrated experience with 3-phase 480 / 208 VAC, single-phase 208 / 120 VAC, and 24 VDC systemsKnowledge of PROFINET and Ethernet communication protocolsFamiliarity with configuring and optimizing vision systems (Keyence, Cognex) and programming dispense and fluid fill systems. Fanuc 2D IRVision and Fanuc 3DVision experience is assetStrong problem-solving ability to address complex technical issues, identify root causes, and implement effective solutionsCompensation and Benefits
