PURPOSE OF POSITION : Lead a classroom teaching team to provide early care and education to a classroom of preschool children, using the High Scope curriculum. Teacher 4 is a co-teacher with another full-time teacher. Together they are assigned to 2 groups of children in the classroom. He / she also provides leadership to part-time caregivers assigned to the classroom. Teacher 4 implements Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for children with disabilities in the classroom. Teacher 4 promotes family engagement with parents of children in the classroom. A Preschool Teacher 4 Performance Standard explains in detail the essential duties and responsibilities of this position and must be used as an integral part of this Job Description.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : the duties recorded below are representative and are not intended to cover all the duties performed.

Has the professional knowledge and judgment to lead a teaching team to :

  • Role model warm, secure, affectionate relationships with each child to create a positive climate. (Note : Lifting, touching, and holding a child is necessary).
  • Implement the HighScope curriculum to plan environments, activities, and daily routines for young children.
  • Use the HighScope curriculum for interaction strategies with children.
  • Observe, screen, and assess young children to provide support for ongoing developmental progress and achievement of RCMA School Readiness goals.
  • Establish and maintain a safe and healthy environment.
  • Be an engaged partner with families.
  • Manage the classroom.
  • Coach other teachers.
  • Learn to commit to professionalism and RCMA.
  • Adherence to all RCMA funding and DCF requirements.

EDUCATION : Must have one of the following :

  • BA / BS degree in early childhood education or child development OR
  • BA / BS degree and coursework equivalent
  • to a major relating to early childhood education (18 credits) with experience (480 hours) in teaching preschool-age children.
  • Coursework equivalent to a major relating to early childhood education includes but is not limited to courses that focus on child development, early childhood education and curriculum, early childhood teaching and assessment, psychology, family development, health and physical development, mathematics, science, and children’s literature. Such courses may be offered in various departments, such as education, home economics, music, art, library sciences, physical education and recreation, psychology, family studies, and others. It is expected that each employee will provide RCMA with information on the college credit courses taken and to demonstrate that the courses address early childhood education or child development with a focus on children ages 0 to 5. RCMA will examine the college transcripts and review course descriptions or syllabi to determine the relevance of the courses to the early childhood program.
  • NOTE :

  • After initial hire, the employee must complete mandatory childcare training (DCF 45 hours) as specified in the DCF Training Addendum and in accordance with Florida Statutes and funding source requirements to retain eligibility to be employed in this position.
  • Transcripts must be submitted to HR Department for evaluation and approval.
  • DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Member of the community being served, and, when applicable, farm worker background.
  • Possess a current certification in Pediatric Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Pediatric First-Aid.
  • Use academic language in teaching and provide language models to others.
