Position Summary
The Resource Counselor supports students in the Henrietta G. Lewis Campus School by responding to behavioral crises, supervising in-school suspensions and time outs, and maintaining a safe, supportive environment throughout the school day. This role works closely with teachers to assist students in de-escalating, re-engaging, and returning to class successfully. Resource Counselors also provide hallway, lunchroom, and bus supervision, helping foster a positive school culture where students can thrive academically and socially.

Compensation
$18.63 – $20.05 per hour to start

Professional Development Opportunities
Resource Counselors receive ongoing professional development through weekly supervision, training, and required certifications. Staff maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) and First Aid / CPR certifications provided by the agency.
Position Specific Duties / Responsibilities
Respond to behavioral crises by providing immediate support and, when needed, removing students from class
Supervise students during in-school suspensions, extended time outs, or while awaiting reentry to programs
Monitor students suspended from public school during the school day
Provide supervision in hallways, lunchroom, and bus dismissal areas as needed
Assist teachers in de-escalating and supporting students in crisis
Perform morning check-ins with day students and track late returns from home visits
Record and maintain data on “out-of-program” students; prepare reports on suspensions and time-outs
Support and actively contribute to the school-wide PBIS program
Participate in staff training, including TCI refreshers as requested
Maintain accurate records of student supervision and disciplinary actions
Attend mandatory in-service training, staff meetings, and supervision sessions
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Principal or Supervisor
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong ability to build supportive and respectful relationships with youth
Skills in de-escalation, behavior management, and crisis response
Effective communication across mediums (logs, email, phone)
Flexibility, adaptability, and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations
Ability to collaborate with staff, families, and community partners to support students
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent (required)
Previous experience with children with behavioral disorders (preferred)
Valid driver’s license, adequate auto insurance, and ability to meet agency driving criteria (required)
Ability to pass an annual physical per agency health policy (Category 3 classification)
