The purpose of the cardiology service at Saint Francis is to use an evidence-based approach to diagnose patients with cardiac disease and provide a comprehensive treatment plan. The is performed for appointments seen on an outpatient basis, inpatients who are hospitalized either due to being unstable during a scheduled appointment or transfer from the emergency service, or through consulting on patients being primarily managed by other services. Thus, this includes a spectrum of patients from very stable to critically ill.

We are looking to hire a veterinary technician to join the cardiology service. Together, the veterinary technician, cardiologist, and other hospital team members will work together to meet the goal of providing exceptional care for patients with cardiac disease.

The ideal candidate :

  • Fast learner
  • Excellent communication skills, both with colleagues and clientele
  • Works well on a team as well as independently
  • Able to fully use current technical skills and learn from new experiences
  • Working understanding of common cardiac diagnostics, diseases, and treatments

Experience and skills requirements :

  • LVT Preferred
  • Phlebotomy / IV catheter placement experience
  • Central line maintenance / care
  • Doppler blood pressure measurement
  • Comfort calculating CRIs (diuretics, inotropes, analgesics)
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • ECG and Holter monitor application
  • Animal handling experience (physical examination, thoracic radiographs, echocardiography)
  • Comfort in assisting with centesis (thorax, abdomen, pericardium)
  • Comfort with appropriate radiographic technique for thoracic radiographs)
  • Ability to multitask, adjust, and adapt to a fast-paced workflow
  • Computer skills and ability to learn and troubleshoot machines and devices (telemetry, ECG, Holter monitors, echocardiogram)
  • Role Responsibilities

  • Support cardiologist to ensure quality veterinary care, advocate for pets, and educate clients
  • Assist cardiologist and the medical team to maximize productivity and maintain positive patient flow
  • Assist with procedures in accordance with Georgia's Veterinary Practice Act outlined for credentialed veterinary technicians
  • Communicate with clients about individualized pet health concerns and offer guidance on care, at-home monitoring, medications, and additional treatments, as well as perform and document follow-up communication
  • Assist in maintaining relevant, comprehensive medical records with the support of practice systems
  • Obtain relevant health history and information from clients, and maintain medical charts
  • Assist in acquiring medical records from referring veterinarians, as well as placing referrals to tertiary hospitals (for procedures not performed at Saint Francis)
  • Use safe restraining techniques, follow standard protocols, and sustain clean and organized treatment areas, exam rooms, and labs
  • 6- and 12- lead ECG in house
  • Holter system application (fitting patient with leads, advising owners on activity logs, removing Holter, and uploading report into ezyVet (medical records software)
