Job Vacancy Notice Job Title : Early College & Career Liaison (Academic Program Specialist) Job ID : 15159 Location : LaGuardia Community College Full / Part Time : Full-Time Regular / Temporary : Regular POSITION DETAILS The CUNY Early College Initiative builds on a successful partnership between New York City public schools and the colleges within the CUNY system.

Currently LaGuardia has two successful partnerships with Middle College High School and International High School.

A third Early College partnership began in September 2013 with the opening of Energy Tech High School in Long Island City.

The Early College Initiative reports to the Associate Dean in the Division for Academic Affairs and is supported by Central Office administration at CUNY.

Reporting to the Associate Dean in Academic Affairs, the Early College and Career Liaison will support the work of the Early College programs in both the college and high school campuses as well as the following responsibilities :

  • Assist with convening regular school planning meetings and college, school staff and industry partners that focus primarily on the ongoing development of the scope and sequence of the school, the development of college and industry partnership activities and curriculum development.
  • Advise on program policies / procedures and register students, schedule college classes, and meet with academic chairs to discuss course offerings.
  • Work with the high school principal and guide counselors to support student success.
  • Provide for collaborative work with both Middle College and International High Schools.
  • Monitor student's progress and success by ensuring that appropriate collaborative support mechanisms are in place as administrative responsibilities are met.
  • Coordinate all activities related to college course-taking by high school students.
  • Coordinate mentoring programs at the school in partnership with industry liaison
  • Conduct parent outreach as it pertains to the college and career model and goals.

QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's Degree and four years' relevant experience required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Master's degree in counseling or related field is strongly preferred.

The candidate should demonstrate strong organizational skills, ability to work well with high school students, counselors and administrative staff is strongly preferred.

Ability to supervise clerical staff, and analyze data is preferred.

A background in academic advising at the college level, or high school is preferred.

Willingness to accept additional work as assigned by program manager.

CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW Participates in the daily coordination of academic and administrative activities of a College's specialized academic program under management direction.

  • Supports program development, student service delivery, outcome evaluation and instructor / student recruitment, enrollment, and retention.
  • Recommends, implements and evaluates strategies to expand program offerings
  • Prepares analytical and statistical reports for management
  • Develops and maintains relationships with various College offices to improve student and faculty services
  • Serves as resource expert regarding program policies and procedures
  • Oversees office recordkeeping; manages updates of program web and print materials
  • May supervise office operations and / or department budget
