Job description

The System Administrator is responsible for maintaining the organization's IT infrastructure-ensuring Windows and Linux servers, network services, and cloud resources are secure, reliable, and continuously available. They will play a supporting role in achieving the organization's goals by serving as Joint Integration and Experimentation's (JMIE) System Administrator, providing system‑level support for experimentation platforms, managing backups and disaster‑recovery processes, automating routine tasks, and delivering day‑to‑day technical assistance to users and experiment teams. This position will directly impact mission readiness and the success of JMIE initiatives by guaranteeing that critical technology assets operate efficiently, securely, and without interruption.

CORE FUNCTIONS / JOB DUITES

Ability to perform the following independently, under minimum supervision :

Provide assistance as a Domain Administrator installing, configuring, and maintaining operating systems (Windows / Linux) and hardware such as servers, desktops, and storage devices.

Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement solutions to ensure reliability and efficiency.

Manage user accounts, permissions, and access control using tools like Active Directory.

Implement security measures, apply patches, and ensure compliance with organizational policies and industry standards.

Write or modify scripts (e.g., PowerShell, Bash) to automate routine tasks and improve system administration processes.

Maintain detailed documentation of system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.

Manage backup solutions and disaster recovery plans to ensure business continuity.

Work closely with network engineers, developers, and other IT staff on system upgrades and integration projects.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Minimum of five (5) years and possess a deep understanding of :

Configuring and Managing Windows Server or Linux environments, applications (commercial and government), networks (IPs, subnets, etc.), and network equipment (switches)

Networking concepts and virtualization technologies

System monitoring tools

Cloud platforms and hybrid environments

Implementation and understanding of Engineering principles in a professional environment

Maintaining, configuring, operating and troubleshooting complex electronic computer interface systems and network equipment

U.S. Government computers, networks, and security

Administering server-side technology and networked computing systems

Critical thinking and problem-solving skills

DNS / DHCP / Kickstart / LDAP / Kubernetes / Red Hat 7&8 / Windows 10 / ACAS / Rancher / Grafana / Cloud Security Gateway

Scripting (i.e. Powershell or Bash)

Automate installation, configuration, and provisioning using Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform, Ansible, Puppet, and Chef

Configuring and manage DOD and IC standard distributed authentication services and network infrastructures

Joint IO Range, Defense Research and Engineering Network, and other similar environments beneficial

EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS

Preferred (BS STEM Degree)

Windows / Linux OS Certification Preferred

CompTIA Security+ Required

DoD 8140 Compliance Required

The ability to work non-standard work hours and schedules in support of project requirements.

PAY RANGE

$90,000.00 to $120,000.00 annually, DOE

U.S. Citizenship is Required

SECURITY CLEARANCE

Candidates must have an active clearance OR the ability to obtain a US Government security clearance and will be subject to a US security background investigation (i.e. favorable background investigation / credit score). Additional eligibility requirements for access to various levels of classified information may also be required. An active security clearance is highly desirable.
